# 162 - New Rochelle
Continuing our series of the American Half Dollars Commemoratives, we will today present the 1938 "New Rochelle".
As all the commemorative half dollars, it weights 12,5g with a 90% silver purity.
This coin commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the settlement of the city of New Rochelle, New York. Here we have a coin authorized in 1936, minted in 1937 and carrying the date 1938.
The obverse depicted a fatted calf and John Pell, early owner of the land upon which the city of New Rochelle is situated.
The reverse design depicts an iris (the French fleur-de-lis) taken from the seal of New York City.
A total of 15,266 coins were distributed. The actual price is around U$475.00 in this grade.
