Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Dollar series, we will present you today the 1997-S "Jackie Robinson" graded by PCGS PR70 DCAM.
All coins of this series weight 26.73g with 90% silver purity. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.
They will be presented in the order they were minted.
This coin was issued in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of his appearance in a major league baseball game as the first black player.
The obverse of the coin portrays Jackie Robinson sliding into home plate. This recalls when he stole home plate in a 1955 World Series game.
The reverse of the coin features the logo of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
A total of 110,002 coins were minted in San Francisco. The issue price was U$37.00. The actual price is around U$525.00 in this grade.

Great coin commemorating an important milestone for progress in the US. I think people forget barely any time has passed between the era of legally enforced segregation and today. It is good to remember.
