# 314 - First Flight
Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Dollar series, we will present you today the 2003 "First Flight" graded by PCGS PR70 DCAM.
All coins of this series weight 26.73g with 90% silver purity. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.
They will be presented in the order they were minted.
This coin was issued to commemorate the centennial of the first powered, manned flight.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Orville and Wilbur Wright facing left.
The reverse of the coin features the Wright 1903 Flyer, in flight above the dunes at Kill Devil Hill.
A total of 190,240 coins were minted in Philadelphia. The issue price was U$37.00. The actual price is around U$240.00 in this grade.

It is very similar to the half dollar of the same commemoration.
They showed their faces and the airplane on both coins.
That must have been an exciting day... First Flight...
It is a pity that only the two of them saw the flight. The airplane did not fly with its motor, it was catapulted. I agree that it was very exciting.
