# 490 - 2 Euro Commemoratives - Part 30

in #steemsilvergold5 years ago (edited)

I love commemorative coins and, a few years ago, I discovered that the Euro Community was minting commemorative coins.

Each country has the right to mint up to two coins each year. They must be 2 euros, with the same face of a normal 2 euros coin and the same attributes and aspect.

The minting country uses the other side to show us what it is being commemorated.

They circulate exactly as the normal 2 euros coins.

The only exception to the rule of two coins each year is when they commemorate facts that affect the whole Europe. In this case the countries are allowed an extra coin.

They are Bi-Metallic Nickel-brass clad Nickel center in Copper-nickel ring, 8.5 g.

The first one was minted in Greece (2004) to commemorate the Athens Summer Olympic Games with a mintage of 50,000,000.

I will show all that I have, in no particular order.

The info about the coins was taken from Numista : https://en.numista.com/index.php

Today's first is a 2014 2 Euro from Spain, commemorating UNESCO World Heritage: Park Güell and the Works of Antoni Gaudí. The coin depicts in the foreground a lizard sculpture which is the Park Güell emblem and was designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí. As background a detail of one of the pavilions situated at the Park Güell entrance.

The second is a 2015 2 Euro from Spain, commemorating the UNESCO World Heritage: Cave of Altamira. The design depicts the bison painting from the Cave of Altamira located in Cantabria.

The third is a 2015 2 Euro from Austria, commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Flag of the European Union. The designs show the EU flag as a symbol that unites people and cultures with shared visions and ideals for a better common future.

I love the bison design! When you got the coins, were they in capsules already?

No. As these are circulating commemoratives, they are sold in rolls and the dealers pick them and sell to you. I put them in capsules to preserve them from falls or dirty fingers. People like to see with their hands, not their eyes...

Really like the design of the bison!! Think it's clean and strong. Thanks for sharing!

It is one of the most amazing designs that are on the walls of Altamira Cave. Beautiful!
