2017 Gold Proof Sovereign

The pride and joy of my collection has to be this 2017 proof gold sovereign. This unique designed sovereign was minted to mark the 200th anniversary of the gold sovereign and used the original St George and the Dragon garter design by Benedetto Pistrucci which appeared on the 1817 George III sovereign and wow its a sexy little gold nugget.

There is more gold in this coin than a big bag of carrots and weighs 7.98g. The maximum coin mintage including ones in sets was 13,050 and just 10,500 were in this presentation but Royal mint then in their wisdom brought out many other varients such as struck on the day, the chunky double piedfort gto name just a few until it got a bit silly, milked to death, still im overjoyed to have this in my stack.

I did make a youtube vid showing off my sovereign and i remeber having a right good moan, on the outer package it showed the COA number being 1974 which was the year i was born, as you could imagine i was jumping up and down with delight congratulating my good fortune but when i opened the box the actual COA was 1794, ffs i has a right sulk on, id have stabbed a dragon myself if one had been brave enough to come near me, but i got over it and i lived to tell the tale.

One thing i did was register my sovereign with the Royal Mint and for doing that i was entered into a competition to win a signed copy of "a history of the sovereign" written by Kevin Clancy and as luck would have it it is signed by Kevin Clancy and not some random bloke off the street, i wouldn't put it past RM to have got the wrong person to sign it, but still what a cool book and an amazing prize to win and everything you would ever want to know about the sovereign but were too afraid to ask, amazing. Anyway im trying to type this and eat a donner kabab which is challenging and the kabab has more of my attention than this post so i will have to love you and leave you, nom nom, nom
