Hanging with the Benjamins.....

in #steemsilvergold5 years ago (edited)

I know it’s pirate Sunday but work comes first so I wasn’t able to go to the private storage and grab something to show related to it.

Instead, I am going to show off one of the Franklin Half Dollars in my collection.

This one is also a beauty. It’s a 1948-D, which has been graded an MS64 FBL by PCGS. This coin has tons of luster to it and is ”Blast White”.

This is the first year of this coin, there were just over four million of these struck. Because it’s a first year mintage many of these were collected making this an easier year to find in good condition. But finding one with full bell lines is a whole other story.

The experts say only the first 5% struck would have full bell lines. Which means only 20,000 of these were ever produced. How many of those 20,000 do you think still look like this?

That's correct... Only 20,000 of these "started out" with Full Bell Lines... God only knows how many are left...

My guess would be about 30%.

Beautiful! Beautiful!

It is a great coin and an excellent piece of history @silverd510.

I did have a question for you. Have you heard about these quarters that are getting minted at West Point and will only be found in circulation? They are supposed to have a low mintage and I wondered if you thought they might be worth something when they get released?

I have heard about it. If I happen to find any I’ll probably sell them now. The only ones that with be worth anything are very high graded ones in my opinion.
