It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the midway point of the college football season. As green leaves and summer sun have given way to the familiar brown and slight chill of autumn, so to has the college football landscape changed. There was movement throughout the top 25 in this week's rankings, including two new editions to the top 5, and once again 4 new teams jumped into this week's top 25.
We start at the Cotton Bowl where # 6 Oklahoma met the Texas Longhorns in an early battle atop the Big 12. The Longhorns prevailed with a 40-yd field goal to win a shootout as time expired, 48-45. The win was another big one for Texas as they continue their rebuild under Tom Herman. UT jumps up 6 spots to # 11 after the victory and Oklahoma slid down 9 spots and out of the top 10, settling in at # 15 in this week's rankings.
# 3 LSU was in Gainesville to visit the Florida Gators in a difficult road matchup in the SEC. The Tigers were unable to keep the early-season roll going as they fell 27-19 and dropped to # 10. The victory propelled the Gators up 8 spots and all the way to # 17. Staying in the top 10, Alabama rolled once again, this time over lowly Arkansas, to stay atop the poll at # 1, Ohio St. stayed put at # 2 - pulling away in the 2nd half from Indiana, and Clemson steam-rolled Wake Forest on the road 63-3, to move up a spot to # 3. Georgia is also up a spot to # 4 as they took care of Vanderbilt and Notre Dame is into the top 5 following their 45-23 victory over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Rounding out the top 10 are Central Florida, up 3 spots to # 6, after taking care of SMU 48-20, West Virginia, who jumped up 4 spots to # 7 after taking care of Kansas and remain unbeaten at 5-0. Washington moved up two spots to 8, Penn St. rose 3 spots to # 9, and the aforementioned LSU Tigers round out the top 10.

Wisconsin, Michigan, and Miami FL all took advantage of losses by teams in front of them to all slide up slightly in this week's rankings. The Badgers check-in at # 12, followed by Michigan at 13 and the Hurricanes at 14, who used a huge second-half comeback to get past rival Florida State, 28-27, in a thriller.
Following Oklahoma at 15, are Kentucky, down a spot after falling at Texas A&M, the aforementioned Gators at 17, and then Oregon and N.C. St. at 18 and 19, respectively after both moved up 2 places. Colorado remained unbeaten (5-0) and slid up 3 spots to 20 and Auburn settled in at # 21. The Tigers were the big tumbler of the week, dropping 14 spots from # 7 to 21 following their loss at Mississippi St. Speaking of the Bulldogs, that victory over Auburn shot them back into the rankings at 24 after a one week hiatus from the poll.

Rounding out the top 25 are South Florida, who checks-in at # 23 after a 5-0 start, Washington State, who is in at # 22, and lastly, congratulations to the Cincinnati Bearcats and their 6-0 start, good enough to propel them into the rankings at # 25 this week. In other action Michigan State invades Happy Valley and takes on # 9 Penn State in a game with big implications in the Big Ten East Division standings, # 6 UCF has a tricky game at Memphis, and Colorado visits USC as the Buffaloes will look to improve to 6-0.
