Eastern Quolls In Australia Reappeared After 50 Years

Hello Everyone How Are You?

Do You Like Furry Animals?

Do You Like Furry Carnivorous Animals?

Do You Like Furry Carnivorous Animals That Are Extinct? (Or Not?)

Then Get Ready For The Eastern Quoll

The Eastern Quoll or  Dasyurus Viverrinus but for ease to us commoners it is also referred as Eastern Native Cat is an animal that came close to extinction but thanks to the scientists it was saved and it's ready once again to live on its own in the wild fields of Australia.

What's it look like?

Eastern quoll is a carnivorous marsupial that as the cat name suggests it's similar in size with that of a regular cat. In general it looks like a cat merged with a mouse and a squirrel. It has a fur which has 3 different varieties of color, black, brown and fawn (same color as the deer and the fawns :P )  and has also white spots all over except the tail. (source)

Where can we find them?

It was basically an animal that only could be found in Australia but became extinct during 1960. Nowadays a few of them remained in Tasmania and Bruny Island. The reasons behind the extinction in Australia are said to be disease-related as well as the introduction of some ''new'' for Australia predators like foxes . Even though some Eastern quolls as mentioned are in Tasmania and Bruny Island they are considered an endangered species by IUCN

How Fierce they are?

These little creatures even though they seem cute at the first sight, they are fierce carnivorous that hunt all night their preys. During day they sleep in one of the many hideouts they have made. They eat from insects to small mammals and they even take food from the Tasmanian devil one of the fiercest animals out there. (Source)

What happened at the Booderee National Park?

In that park after 50 years the first Eastern quolls that have been born in the wild appeared. The people of the national park alongside the Australian government, the Australian National University, WWF-Australia and many other non-government organisations as well as research institutions wanted to see if the Eastern quolls can manage to once again live in Australia by their own.

For that purpose they took 20 Eastern quolls  in March from Tasmania and relocate them in the park. A couple of days ago they found young quolls from 3 different female. That indicates that Eastern quolls can actually survive in Australia once again and also that the people behind this whole achievement learnt a lot about their habits, as the whole environment even though it was "in the wild" it was controlled and monitored by humans.  Here is the video by WWF-Australia.

For me this is big news not only because they achieved to bring back an extinct creature but also because so many different operators came together with a common goal and achieved it. That shows once again that together we can do great things.

xaxaaaaa.... souvlisto!!! :)

Nature is in a constant struggle to survive human's bad habits, animals going extinct is becoming a normal thing unfortunately...

Thank god there are some humans helping out nature! If it wasn't for them imagine where we would be, rainforest gone, more plastic in the ocean than actual water, no animals except the ones that we deem worthy enough to serve as food...

It's the first time I'm hearing about this Eastern Quoll guys, they look awesomely devilish, hopefully australia will be full of them in a couple of years

we are the species that brings either destruction or creation. In every aspect we do both great and bad things. A simple example and note that i really like animals and people saving them, is that there some ''ecologists'' (that's a real life scenario) that go to some village and throw mostly snakes and reptiles in order for their population to increase. I hate snakes but if they are in a controlled environment and monitored i am fine. If you throw them next to people houses it will only bring harm!

True true, those people should be sued and arrested for doing that... I'm all about increasing animal pop but there is something called endangering human lives...
