The Truth Is Everyone And Everybody Is Scared But We need To Change Now

So it’s a stormy night and you’re home alone. You lay on your bed, scared to turn off the light. You eventually managed to turn off the light so you can easily sleep. Your mind starts wandering, creating irrational images of someone trying to pull your legs while you sleep! Your breathing speeds up. Your heart races. Your muscles tighten. You feel shivers through your bloodstream! You immediately stand up and turn on the lights! You can’t sleep no more. (Oh god, it’s 2am and I’m writing this article, I don’t wish to get scared of something that do not exist.)


Introduction

I used to be afraid of reptiles, I used to be afraid of the dark(literally everyone still gets scared of the dark at one point or the other). Maybe I still am(on rare occasions).
I’ve met people with more bizarre fears. Fear of holes, fear of masks, fear of falling asleep! fear of rain!!. Oh come on, we know that this fears are irrational in so many ways. So why are we letting them stop us from living a free and enjoyable life?


To beat your enemy, you must first understand it.

What Is Fear?

Even at this stage of the world, we still live in a fear-led life. Everyone is still low-key a scaredy chicken. This is true, look around and observe what you see. People are suffering, people are depressed, and when you take a deeper look into the root cause of this pain you find out that fear is abundant.

This Is How Fear Is

Fear is not anxiety.
Fear is described as an emotional response, and by this it is a state of mind. Within you, you feel it arise, sometimes slowly, sometimes suddenly, particularly as a response to something you feel, remember, see or hear, for thoughts that appear in your mind.
Furthermore,

It is a chain reaction in the brain that starts with a stressful stimulus and ends with the release of chemicals that cause a racing heart, fast breathing and energized muscles, among other things, also known as the fight-or-flight response. The stimulus could be a spider, a knife at your throat, an auditorium full of people waiting for you to speak or the sudden thud of your front door against the door frame. | Source

Fear starts from the mind and it must be defeated from the mind.

How Is Fear Developed?

According to psychology humans develop fears and phobias towards certain objects when they experience traumatic experience related to that object in their early childhood.

For example a child might not develop fear of darkness until his mother slams the door accidentally one day while he is in a dark room. The child then associates the shock he has received when the door was slammed with darkness and so he starts to fear darkness later on.

Later on comes the media with its distorted facts about darkness to further reinforce the fear that the child has developed earlier. So the causes of fears and phobias are usually scary experiences associated with the feared objects that are reinforced later on by different factors. |source

There are so many causes of fear but the major cause is tradegy, horror of past painful experiences and memories from things our senses perceive.

It’s so easy for a person to develop fear from a historical harmful event. Fear of sleeping seems so bizarre but what do you expect from a teenager that lost his mom that died from sleeping and not waking up. That teenager is expected to develop the fear of sleeping except he’s such with a strong mind.

How To Be Scared Of Nothing

The truth is that you’ll never be completely safe. Things change, things must change. It’s natural. You are aware that you and those you love will die one day, but not when or how. This is the bad side of life. Perhaps is this the price of life? To be honest it looks like it is. But what can we do?

Defeat fear before it defeats you.

From my experience, self awareness is the major key to dealing with fear, and it’s not just about being self-aware as it boils down to a lot of things.

You need to learn to observe yourself more, when you observe yourself your common sense controls your mind. Self awareness is about knowing when emotional uncertainty begins within you, it is about being able to sense fear when it tries to stalk you. Fear starts in the mind and being aware of this is the first step towards progress, now you must know this truth that the fear can not be permanently eliminated from life as I said earlier, it’s kinda like a price for life but the key here is to learn to face it and embrace it.

This might be too much for some people, but good news, you can start slowly and gradually expose yourself to them.Hate insects? Slowly expose yourself to them. Hate the dark? Spend more and more time in dim places on purpose. By this you get to know yourself better and you slowly grow stronger mentally and emotionally.

Fear can be be very tricky, for when you don’t face it it becomes your limit. And living with limits by fear eventually creates more limits and it just keeps going till you find yourself lost and confused in a totally unknown direction of life.

Do not live in the shadows of fear but look straight into its eyes and just do it, this is when you discover that everything you have been looking for in life is in the other side of fear.

Fear is necessary for survival because it makes us avoid dangerous situations, like for example fear of heights is so basic even babies feel rejection towards it.

The problem with fear is when it becomes distorted by something that happened to the person, and ends up becoming an irrational fears that can have all sort of repercussions.

I so much agree with you, that’s why I feel like fear is a natural emotion as this experiment with babies even proves it. It’s really important for us to learn to embrace it and be in control of it rather than letting it control us.

Yes when fear becomes distorted, it becomes a phobia. That’s why it’s important to fight it before it becomes a phobia. When it becomes a phobia, the victim then has no single control over the fear. Phobias are really hard to get rid off.
