STEMng meet up at LCC : some mother nature and engineering

in #stemng6 years ago (edited)

Warm greetings fellas, an update from our experience in the stemng meet-up, a sub-community of one of the greatest, steemSTEM on steemit.

If you're still ignorant, steemSTEM founded by @lemouth is a community of great minded and hard working people who share general knowledge based on the STEM — science technology engineering and mathematics. Though I feel science and technology cover everything. Visit @steemstem and our discord server for more information.

This article isn't the complete elaboration of the whole experience, so endeavour to read the experience of others. Simply, I'd categorically say that this is just an overview or summary and not a full report of our convergence on 11th July 2018, but a lot could be learnt......... Who knows?

First and foremost, a list of the attendees, @agbona, @rharphelle, @funmiakinpelu, @djoi, @samest, @gentleshaid, @eurogee, @dandymee, @real2josh, @amazonaesh, etc during the meeting and seeing them was amazing, pulsating and......... Damn!!! Anything you can describe "seeing the happy, funny and beautiful faces behind those usernames". My first time being in this city, Lagos to see the faces of the creators of these amazing works.

So happy I met @gentleshaid one on one, having thought that i wouldn't make it since I lived far off. But luckily I made it to Lagos a day 11th..... Thank goodness...

LCC _ Lekki Conservation Center

All in five hours, we chatted introducing ourselves, viewing the whole area and acquainting ourselves with steemstem from all our ideas and questions.

Located in Lagos, Nigeria is a conserved area also a tourist center about 28years old, an effort made to protect wildlife, saving animals and plants to sustain the ecosystem, despite the rate of urbanization. Get a better description here.

Appreciating mother Nature.

Amongst the countless blessings our world is endowed with includes the vegetation, plants, animals, air and water, of which each has their various benefits. They all ensure an unbroken food chain, photosynthesis, shelter, warming up of the earth, well-surviving ecosystem, all included. The only bad I can think of now is the breeding of mosquitoes in the swamps.

The LCC project is an amazing one. It is good to see that efforts are made to preserve nature. Carbon dioxide a major of air pollution, a current trend which places us on a threshold of crisis to some point is curtailed by photosynthesis in plants. It prevents the rise in its percentage content of the atmosphere, therefore reducing greenhouse effect and depletion of the ozone layer.

We all know how it feels, to grow up with the knowledge of an animal which existed once with no hope of seeing them for real except in museums, movies and pictures. Conservation protects animals from extinction. I definitely would have loved it if I saw a dinosaur or a sabre-toothed tiger or any of those Ice Age animals for real, maybe in a cages one day........ What do you think?

Bottom line: nature's conservation is amazing and must be encouraged.

The funniest— Africa's longest Canopy Walkway(401m)

Journey through to the top!!!

To me, the experience on the canopy was the funniest among all the activities. There was pulsating moments, sinister joy seeing the fear on people's faces as they fought acrophobia, especially when it dangled........ Brahaha just kidding.
From the top, we could see an aerial view of the area.

Rules

Definitely, the structure of the walkway and towers must have been studied beforehand its creation. Calculations were done to get an average maximum value of mass they could hold on a safe level(not exceeding the elastic limit) which turned out to be six on walkway and twelve on the tower. One rule absent, though we adhered was walking through the centre region. At that height, equilibrium definitely will be unstable, therefore staying in the middle was significant.

During rains or storms, lightning could occur as a result of charges in the top atmosphere, of which safety requires a lightning conductor to direct the charges to earth.

In such conditions staying or walking at such height exposes one to those charges and poses danger.

Speak of equilibrium — Center of gravity becomes badly unstable, external forces act on the system and may cause the elastic limit of the structure to be exceeded.

Once again, a sincere gratitude goes to you all who made it and also to those who couldn't make it. Maybe next time we'll see one another. Keep on in the great effort of dignifying steemstem community and Nigeria. Thanks, guys.... Love and safe trip home.

That's really quite a decent pic of you guys. I'm jealous that you all know how to pose naturally... something I've never achieved.

Sorry I couldn't be there! Blame the crashing crypto market =P
