[Interesting story] Is it Good to be a King...?

in #story6 years ago

Is it good to be a queen? Maybe not bad. You can wear a royal dress, order your favorite dishes every day for dinner, trips to the country and the continent. And even have a special waitress who will wear new shoes for you, as happened at Elizabeth's noble house now. And on the other hand, these kings always have some envious people, enemies and in general, all visible lives - not hiding or hiding. Quite possibly this is the reason why some of the historical kings suddenly disappear without a trace, perhaps they hide somewhere and live peacefully to death, or may be killed by envious people or enemies. Some, of course, tend to believe that one or another king flies in the clouds to the kingdom of immortality or contacts the aliens. But this hardly looks like the truth ..

Constantine XI (1405)

image

Constantine Paleologue

The life of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine was extensively sanctified by historical documents, except for one fact - the great emperor had no burial, and no one saw him die.

Following chronological events, ascending to the throne, Constantine believed that he would devote his life to the struggle against the Turks, and would fight to the end, either victorious or towards the collapse of his empire. Without going into the life of the emperor and the battle for Constantinople, I will only record the fact of his mysterious disappearance.

The last time Constantine was seen in the fall of Constantinople. Realizing that the battle would be lost, the emperor personally entered the battle, shoulder to shoulder with his soldiers. A heroic act, you will not say anything. But in the life of this emperor Constantine came to an end, there was no reliable information, and the guesses of his departure varied. According to one version, Constantine, avoiding captivity, asked his soldiers to kill him, on the other hand he escaped on a small ship.

The Last Battle of Constantine

But since the Emperor, when entering the battle, dropped all the emblems of the kingdom and regalia, most likely he only died on the battlefield and his body was not identified, but this fact became an additional concern for historians and researchers.

Romulus (753)

image

The founders of Rome

Everyone knows the legend that Rome was founded by the twin brothers of Romulus and Remus, raised by the female wolves (though many historians believe that the "wolf" is really a prostitute, as ancient Rome called the corrupt woman - "wolf"). According to ancient history in 753, the brothers founded Rome, Romulus and then succeeded for nearly 40 years, until one day he went to the Vulcan temple, to consult with senators and ... disappear.

The version he rides on in the clouds is certainly interesting, but somehow not quite believable. Another assumption that Romulus absorbs the solar eclipse is even more anecdotal.

Most likely, Romulus was murdered by senators, who appeared with a version of the disappearance of clouds and solar eclipses. But the heart of the matter is held by a respected Roman Romanus Proculus, who witnessed that he met Romulus in a shiny armor, and he told him that he was actually a god and now returns to heaven. The Romans believed, and decided - so be it. Up!

Arthur I, Duke of Brittany (1187)

Arthur I, Duke of Brittany (for what we doBunshu similar)

In 1199, a naughty Richard decided to make his nephew, Arthur, Duke of Brittany, the heir to the throne. Then Richard died during the third crusade, and his younger brother John decided himself to become king and fight for the throne, despite the famous decision to transfer power to young Arthur. But, Richard died, and John declared: "Now I will be king," and the twelve-year-old Arthur replied: "Picture for you I am king," and it begins with them - battle for battle, swinging with a sword - do not shut up mother! The darkness of the lost.

As a result, John defeated Arthur, and it seems he planned to save his nephew's life, but in 1203 Arthur suddenly disappeared. There are many theories - one of which is that John himself had killed Arthur, when the boy was joking. Another version shows that Arthur, on orders of his uncle Joe, was killed by a prison warden. After all, John, of course, benefited from the sudden disappearance of the enemy, but, like most historical puzzles, we may never know how true it is.

Johann Salvator

No one in the Archduke Johann Salvator family approved of it, because of him always angry at how bad the Austrian education system is, and constantly scolding the military. By 19th century standards it can be compared to a modern young man who goes to the institute in a suit, and returns with dreadlocks, with ragged jeans and a bit of marijuana. In short - the Yossi family was not too happy with his liberal thinking.

One way or another, Johann was not at all interested in royal affairs, and in the late 80s of the 19th century he completely abandoned his title, and later married a dancer. Families generally fall into the sediment - as it is, you can only marry nobles. But Johann did not care about their opinions, and bought a cargo ship with the intention of going to South America.

Johann and his wife were last seen at Cape Tres Puntas on July 12, 1890. It seems to be believed that their ship sank during a storm near Cape Horn, but there were no witnesses to this version.

Nevertheless, Johann was not declared dead for two decades. Well, because any disappearance of the nobility opens the possibility for anyone to pretend to be a lost king, rumor that Johann lives under a foreign name in Norway and the heir is still preserved.

The children of Cleopatra (1st century BC)

image

Jan de Bray, Anthony's Party and Cleopatra 1669 (children also present at family dinners)

About the life and love story of Cleopatra VII written hundreds of different folios and interpretations of modern art, but his children are practically not mentioned in written sources. He has four of them. Of course, as a righteous mother he acted recklessly, after committing suicide after Octavian's victory over Antony. He puts his hand into the basket with the snake and leaves the children to their fate. And Octavian, a reptile, captivated Cleopatra's oldest son - Caesarion from a secluded land, promising everything differently - that boy and lead. But the fierce uncle killed his niece. And Cleo the young boys, 5-year-old twins and girls, and another 9-year-old bring Cleopatra to Rome on gold chains and deliberately drove around town with pictures of dead moms, attached to the hands of the children. Do not say anything - good uncle ...

After that, the children were sent to live with Octavian's sister. It is known that the daughter of Cleopatra - Selena, married and became queen, but boys disappeared from the face of the earth and no written proof of their fate has been found.

Hereward (1035)

image

Picture William, because the picture itself is not preserved by Hereward

The Hereward family of Oslak, the first Earl of York, and Johann Salvator, is a white sheep in his family. Because of his bad behavior, his father expelled him from England, at the age of 18. For some time, the exiled prince gets daily bread for a mercenary, and then, after hearing about the conquest of the Normans, decides to go back home and see what's going on there? Arriving at his birthplace, Hereward discovers that his family was killed, and their land was given to some of Norman's left-wing children. Then Hereward had killed 14 Normans with a friend, and then, after gathering like-minded people, began a revolt against the newly anointed King - William.

William - a strange man is, because instead of confronting the rebels, he turns to magicians for help (quite extreme for the Christian ruler). Whether Baba Yaga helped him or not, history was silent, but in the end, the Normans were able to defeat Hereward by bribing one of the rebels to help through the swamps to places where the rebel forces under Hereward's leadership were hiding.

What happened to Hereward after this, is unknown. Some sources claim that William finally forgave him, which in reality seems unlikely, in other versions it is suggested that Hereward was lured and killed by the Normans. In any way, the poor Hereward did nothing - William remained king, England - under the Normans, and this random colleague of the Norman family remained the owner of the land of the Herewards. In short, the mayor of Hereward may have disappeared, but may be hiding where, but who knows - if the father does not deliver his son at the age of 18, maybe everything will be different.

(Russian Wikipedia claims that Hereward's name sounds like Hereward, but to me, it still seems more appropriate than Howard)

Owain Glindur (1415)

image

The last Welshman who bears the title of Prince of Wales

Today the eldest son of the king or queen of England has the title of "Prince of Wales", but once there The real Prince of Wales, and actually he was a georgejetson. The English King did not like the fact that Welsh ran for Wales, which was independent, and in 1282 Edward I finally overthrew Llywelyn ap Grifidda, the last Welsh ruler of Wales.

According to Historic England, the Welsh people never agreed with this result, and 100 years later a soldier named Owain Glindur, who claimed to be the grandson of Llywelyn-upon-Gruffudd, decided to start a revolt because of several land disputes.

The Welsh people abandoned their farmland, left the British army, and joined Owain. By 1400, he returned the title of "Prince of Wales", but Welsh still did not feel a good feeling for England. Whatever it was in 1406, Owain lost another battle, and in 1410 was declared a criminal.

Most of Owain's friends arrested were eventually convicted, but not Owain himself - his faithful friends never told him where he was hiding. Very likely he died in peace and prosperity. However, as in the case of Constantine XI, the Welshs like to say that Owain's ancestors will one day emerge. And they like to demonstrate their standard at rugby matches, to interfere with English.

Sebastian I (1554)

image

King of Portugal Sebastian I

Sebastian I of the House of Aviz, is a religious fanatic, and the heir to the throne of Portugal, trained by the Jesuits, he believes that his destiny is to destroy the Muslims, but it is known, is the fatal mistake of Portuguese politicians - participate in "costly conflicts" in the fight for glory Crusader. So Sebastian, who came to power in 1568, decided to lead the Crusader army and in 1578 went to Morocco, where he received a cruel error. And Portuguese Sebastian ends.

History again does not say what happened to Sebastian himself after that. Most likely, he died in battle along with those who caused glory, but when history does not remember the fate of famous people, there are always people who want to fill the void. At least four contenders for Sebastian's role tried to attract Portuguese attention in the period between 1584 and 1598, and after that people only hoped that the king would someday return. This hope gave birth to a messianic belief called Sebastianism, where the followers believed that one day Sebastian would rise up and liberate them from the power of Spain, but, as you know, this did not happen.
