[Last time...]

[Measure every step, don’t make a sound!]
“Inta th' longboat! Dare noot fail me men! Gawd’s speed!" The Captain’s voice bellowed as the ten brave men poured over the side of the ship and into the waiting longboat below!

In a moment, the heavily laddened boat disappeared into the dark of night and all that could be heard was the splash of their oars.

[On the Grand Bank…]

Night settled in quickly on the Bay of Badjanani. Commander Galligan stood on guard duty on the foredeck, musket in hand. Beside him sat Boy Tipper, holding his knees in his hands as he sat on the teakwood planking. In the middle of the big schooner, two more crew stood guard, while on the bridge, First Mate Dax cradled his musket in his arms as he too watched the waters of the bay. Tipper tried to make small talk in a low tone, hoping that somehow he could jog Galligan’s memory. But the Commander was all business as he took his guard duty to heart.

“Four hours Dax! Then we’ll change the guard!” Captain Callum yelled from below deck.
“Aye Sir…”

The time passed slowly on the great schooner. Above, a half-moon lit the night sky and its light shimmered across the bay like sparkling candle lights. Tipper’s eyes began to blink and he soon slumped to his side on the deck, his head on his arms.

“Ye really aught ta go ta yer bunk loon." Galligan said quietly as he looked down, but the boy had already drifted off in a peaceful sleep.

[The western shore of Comoros…]

The big longboat quietly scrapped bottom on the sandy shores of Comoros and the men all jumped into the sea at the command of Junior Petty Officer- Cooper Ickied. Dragging the boat through knee-high water, the men all pulled her up onto the high-tide mark and tied the leader rope to a tree.

Ickied scanned the coast to the south and then to the north…
Mickied-2.jpg
“Nothin'...no one at aw. That's good." He said as he turned towards the men, “Measure every step men, don’t make a soond. We'll be movin' straight east through th' jungle until we reach th' bay. Keep yer heads low!"

The men all nodded and spread out to the right of the left of Ickied as he entered the jungle’s edge and disappeared into the darkness.

[Back on the Silverton…]

Seaman- Carpenter’s Crew R.me-up, Seaman- Ordinary Seaman Ackerzizon and Seaman- Landsman Yrstikken stood guard on the first watch on the main deck. The night was warm and quiet, nothing but the soft waves of the sea splashing against the hull of the Silverton. No deck lanterns were lit and if it were not for the moon, they would not be able to see anything at all.
Fyrstikken.2.jpg
“No deck lanterns tonight…” Yrstikken remarked as he held the rail and gazed towards the island.
“We're dark tonight, th' raid must not be betrayed." R.me-up replied casually as she too looked towards the island.
“Th' moon is awfully bright. Ahh hope they can make it across th' bay withoot bein' detected!" Ackerzizon said as he scanned the evening sky.
“Ahh wish Ahh was wi' them!" Yrstikken said as he imagined the scene that would unfold in the bay.
“Yoo're a damn lucky cheil ta not be wi' them! They're walkin' inta th' lion's den tonight maties!" R. Me-up said sternly as she pushed herself away from the rail, “Some of them willnot be returnin'..."

Yrstikken looked down and and swallowed hard as the breeze picked up a bit and the main boom line slapped against the rail softly…
