☀️ The Story of the Infamous Sun Fountain! ☀️

I love traveling in Europe, because there is so much history in every building, sculpture and church we visit. Sometimes, sculpture pieces have really interesting stories. While in Nice, France, we stopped by the Sun Fountain. This fountain is beautiful, and is located in the center heart of Nice. The story behind this fountain, is what really attracted my attention!

The fountain was first reviled to the public in 1956. When it was first built, the French community was not very pleased with the sculpture of Apollo, the sun god, which is the sculpture in the middle. Instead of riding a chariot, his horses sat on top of his head like a crown. Spectators thought that Apollo looked more like an advertisement for the most popular automobile at the time called "Renault ACV" also known as "4 horsepower."

To make matter worse, the public was also upset about another thing. Can you guess what it might be?As you make your way down the sculpture, people were also upset about the size of his manhood. Many people thought it was way to big. To try to make things better, the artist, chiseled his manhood down. Locals, started referring to the new sculpture as "the virgin." At some point, the sculpture was taken down and it was lost and forgotten about for over 30 years. Finally in 2011, the statue was reinstalled in it's right-full place.

After learning about all this sculpture piece went through, I think Apollo has earned his right to be in the center of the fountain!
