Hussar Saber

in #story6 years ago

Hussar saber is a type of saber of Polish origin.

Appeared in the XVII century, or, perhaps, at the end of XVI. Its main difference is a closed hilt. Used in the cavalry.

In the XVIII century, Polish influence extends westward across Europe and provokes local imitations.

Wojciech Zabolotsky singles out five main types of Polish hussar sabers of the 17th and 18th centuries.

1a. A saber with a rounded toe, into which the front shoulder of the cross passes, bending at an angle of about 100 °. The end of the XVI - the first half of the XVIII century.
1b. A saber with a straight toe arch, curved with respect to the cross by 90 °, not connected with the pommel. XVII - the first half of the XVIII century.
1c. A saber with a rounded finger arch and with horizontal slats on the guard. The second half of the XVIII century.
1d. A saber with a finger arch bent at 90 °, and a disc-shaped flap as a guard. The second half of the XVIII century.
1e. A saber with a finger arch and additional protective shackles. The end of the XVIII century.
