Koscuskovka

in #story6 years ago

Koscuskovka is a type of the Polish saber of the XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century, which got its name in honor of the national hero of Poland Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

Although sabers of this type were known at least from the beginning of the century, it was during the period of Kosciusko's activity, in particular during his uprising, that they were widely spread in the Polish army.

Their other name is a saber, or a sword of the National Cavalry.

A characteristic feature of such a saber was a rectangular garda - the protective arch departs from the cross at a right angle, and at right angles it joins the top.

Other types of Polish "nominal" sabers were: batorovka (in honor of Stefan Batory), zigmuntovki (in honor of Zygmunt III Vaz, yanovki (in honor of Jan III Sobieski) and Augustus (in honor of Stanislaw August Poniatowski).
