During the Tajik-Pamir Expedition of 1933, the task was set to climb the peak of Stalin.
This task was put before a special detachment consisting almost entirely of the best Soviet climbers.
In the course of the long and very difficult ascent of September 3, peaks reached only EM Abalakov. An automatic meteorological station was installed on top.

Thus, the opening of the peak of Stalin - the highest summit of the USSR - was completed. The peak of Ismail Somoni of Mark of Tajikistan 2009. The peak bore the name of Stalin until 1962, when in connection with the policy of de-Stalinization the mountain was renamed the peak of Communism.

It was in this more than 35-year period when the mountain was called the peak of Communism, the interest of climbers of the USSR and other countries of the world was attracted to it, and a large number of scientific expeditions and climbing events were held.

After the collapse of the USSR, the authorities of independent Tajikistan in 1998 renamed the mountain in honor of the founder of the first Tajik state Ismail Samani.
According to some sources, the locals call the majestic Uzzergi Mountain, which literally means "turning their heads".
