THE CROSSROAD

Once upon a time, there was a terrible famine in the land of animals. Food and money and other social amenities were scarce. Hunger made all the creatures very well and frail. Bimbo the mother of the tortoise, fell ill and was at the point of death she felt pains almost as the days goes by. Tortoise became very worried because he has no money for her treatment not to talk of a funeral ceremonies. He though deeply but could not come up with a breakthrough.

At last he discovered a trick. He called for an assembly of all animals and said to them, 'I am going to a distant land in search of food and money for all of us who are hungry. Do not send for me unless something unusual happens.' The animals agreed.

Three days latter, Bimbo the mother of tortoise died. Death is not unusual, it is phenomenal, the tortoise could not be sent for. Discovering the trick and the fact that they have all been fooled, the elephant advised, 'Let's tell tortoise that the palm tree bears fruits at the end of its leaves and that fishing are now swimming out of the water. This is unusual and should make him return quickly.'

The other animals welcomed the idea, thanked the elephant for the good advice and sent for the tortoise. On hearing of the report the tortoise hastened back to his villa. When he arrived the animals said to him,'Your mother is dead; now arrange for her funeral according to our custom. You can't deceive all the people all the time.' The tortoise was perplexed.

DIDACTIC

The idea of playing on people intelligence should not be taken with negligence. This act is common among the government officials and business communities. It has also infiltrated into our social intercourse that people now sees being cunning as a way to make an end.

The society should eliminates some kind of unnecessary burden they place on people, this is common among Africans, where they honor the death in expense of the living. Most people were force to go into crime so as to meet up with the standard of their immediate society.

There is real famine around the world, the developing nations are really passing through hell for survival. An hungry man is synonymous to a mad man, he wouldn't spare going into the lane of injustice just to get a meal. Poverty is the root of most evil been perpetrated around the world. The primary need of any man according to the geographers is how he live and how he makes a living. If we can come together and fight poverty to the barest minimum the world will be a better place.

IT MIGHT TAKE SOMETIME, THE TRUTH MUST SURELY PREVAIL.
