Coastliners - Trying To Unplug And Be Lazy...

in #story5 years ago

Success is more dangerous than failure. The ripples break over a wider coastline. - Graham Greene

They're harder to surf, but I'd always favor beach breaks over rocks.

It's a psychological issue.

Only knowing that I may hit a rock when falling off my board, is able to restrain me from showing my best surf in the water.

Even though hurricane Leslie decided to completely leave Canary Islands out of its way, we're given with a heavy groundswell these days.

I thought I could give it a shot, but changed my mind then.

A picture says more than a thousand words: Today I better stayed close to the shore.

Beachdays.

Luckily the beach offers more options than surfing.

I've never been good at lazing around, but on the weekends I usually force myself to do so - or better said: others convince me of slowing down.

Even the wildest souls need some recovery from time to time.

I bear the board, and you bear the blame - how does that sound to you? 😉

Unplugging.

Do you notice how complicated it is sometimes to leave our devices aside and just relax?

After a whole week of blogging it's weird to not have a feed in front that wants to be checked constantly.

My favorite and most efficient strategy to let go is reading books.

After the first 3-4 pages you start to forget about your phone - and everything else that happens around you.

Currently I'm reading Blog, Inc. from Joy Deangdeelert Cho - a book about blogging strategies. It's fun to learn how different classic blogging actually is from what we do on Steem.

While studying Cho's blogging tips, I'm actually only half unplugged from the steemy sphere though, but it still feels good to not have a screen in front for at least a couple of hours.

Only a big monster wave may distract me now...

And there it is!

Book vs. waves... hmmm...

I hope you're better at unplugging than I am 😉

Enjoy your weekend, steemians!

Much love,
Marly -

How big were the waves from the hurricane?

This weekend we have 8-9ft high waves. Not really the right height for little Marly :-D

Hard to unplug these days even when trying that infamous text comes through. But like you, books are very good at drawing us away from daily tech. I'd like to hard wire my home instead of all the wireless that comes with tech these days due to it and its effects on the body still being there whether you're involved or not. That's a different way to look at it I know but still a worry for me at least. I grew up in the era of household tech just not being available and really it's birth. I remember brick sized car phones that very few had. I still find it very strange that 2nd and 3rd graders have phones or when you see that crazy person walking around talking to themselves and you realize that they're not crazy at all but that they're using an earbud for a phone call.......... I say unplug, forget then walk outside and plug into the sun.............the oldest tech in the our known neck of the woods. Works wonders ;)

Well I was born in the 80ies and one day my dad brought a Commodore 64 home. I didn't really understood what it was useful for, but I remember that I learned to appreciate it when the first games came out :-)

Technological progress is inevitable, but I fully agree with you that we shouldn't forget how to enjoy time without the tech.

Only the fact that such signs exist nowadays, should be reason enough to seriously think about our behavior...

Well said :-)
Happy unplugged weekend @stillwater and thanks for stopping by.

Wow! I had no idea signs like this were made and in use............. really!?!

You are killing at it again, i really like you to see in action and surfing :)

Hehe, thanks for the flowers @bluemist! Glad you enjoy it in such way :-)

Unplugging is super difficult. I'm planning to get away from my phone for a bit by heading out for a hike later today.

Hiking is a good strategy, too. Mostly the path takes you to a wifi-free area - even better, haha :-)

Hi Surfermarly,
Thank you for tearing yourself away from that book to write this post! I grew up surfing mostly sandy beach breaks ... but you know - sand can be as hard as concrete sometimes! For the last 20 years I have been surfing mostly over rocks and reefs and love it! I do wear a rash vest to save a little skin loss haha. I have a Gath helmet too - but actually that is more of a sunhat when needed - with dark visor for strong sun it is very useful!
I live in Costa Rica now and the surf is excellent all year round - today 3-5 foot offshore!

Keep well and making your wonderful blog - it is greatly appreciated!

Slds.
