The Getaway

It was time to leave…

Tony sat on the couch reminiscing on the events that had played out these past few days. This trip was a wonderful escape from the stress and pain work had brought for him. He really needed the getaway. He played back the minutes as he sat on the couch lost in thoughts.

He started from his first thought when he arrived the Island. For reasons unknown to him, he hated the ocean prior to that time but chose to honour the invitation he was awarded. His hostess had a way with words, she could convince the devil to be a good guy for life if she wanted to.

He sat by the ocean watching people run around, basking under the sun and enjoying the water. He had not yet met his hostess, for reasons best known to her, she was running late. He used the time to surf the internet and distract himself because the more he saw the ocean the more he hated where he was until he met her.
And that was how it all began.
The getaway weekend

He was rudely interrupted by the buzzing sound of the door. It was room service and it was time to check out. It was time to end the fantasy and return back to the real world. He didn't want to. He sluggishly stood up and answered. The polite young lady smiled and offered to help him with his luggage as he was leaving. He in turn politely declined and offered her a tip as he stepped out.

A taxi was waiting for him downstairs, the service at the hotel was extraordinary. He really didn't want to leave, but the life of his weekend party had already gone. There was no other reason to stay. She took with her the enchanting feeling the Island gave him. He, however, did have a backup—the memories. But he didn’t want to reminisce on them here, his hate for the ocean had been rekindled all of a sudden.

"Where to sir", the cabman asked. "To the airport or to the docks", he further questioned.
“To the docks”, Tony replied. He had been recommended to take the cruise boat while leaving and had blatantly rejected, but he changed his mind after.
He wanted to do something different for a change, by listening to others rather than stubbornly following his usual plan, which seemed to always work for him. So he took the cruise option.

He sat by the harbour awaiting his boat, it was the least favoured option on a Sunday afternoon. Most people needed to get home early and prepare for Monday. So it took a while for his boat to be ready. Lost in his head and texts, as he conversed with the mystery lady who had made the weekend perfect. He was suddenly made aware of the time and jumped back to the realization that he had been waiting for close to 3 hours. He was furious as he realized he would be back at the city by now if he had taken his preferred mode of travel. He left the waiting area to complain, but as he walked closer to the helpdesk, he heard the boarding call. No need to complain now.

He boarded the ship and took his seat. He really didn't care about the pleasurable cruise anymore. He just wanted to get home. It had been a long wait and the day was already looking to give way for the night. He decided to sleep through the trip, to prevent an outburst of anger at anything that might aggravate him. He was rudely awakened again, his day couldn't just get enough of rude awakenings. Unfortunately for him, this awakening was to be the last for the day.

Tony's boat was about to be boarded by pirates. The evening couldn't get any worse for Tony. He scrambled out of his chair to see what was happening and know which way to go.
Shots were fired, his life flashed before his eyes as he jumped overboard trying to escape the siege. But his life didn’t flash from when he was a child, it flashed from when the getaway began.

His mind went back to the beginning…
