Street photography: a police selling organic banana, ตำรวจขายกล้วยนํ้าว้า

This is my entry for streetphotography contest hosted by @juliank.

Last week as I was walking away from Wat Intraviharn (Wat In), I noticed a stall selling home grown organic bananas. I called out for the owner as I wanted to but some bananas for the night-shift security guards at the office. To my surprised, a smiling policeman walked towards me and started telling me that these were from his home in Supanburi province, about two hundred kilometers from Bangkok. He told me that all the bigger size bunches were all sold out, he had only tiny ones left so the price was only twenty bahts per bunch. I bought two and asked for a reduction as a joke. But he actually gave me the price I asked for; the two bunches were only thirty bahts, about 50 cents. This policeman is very friendly, humble and polite, which impressed me a lot. I have never met a down-to-earth policeman who are not ashamed of selling bananas from his land as his income supplement.

The typical image of policeman is that of a uniformed policeman giving drivers traffic tickets for fines which often involved an informal negotiation to get away without having to pay the hefty fines. I am afraid that good policemen's efforts have been dented by some of the bad policemen's behaviour of accepting bribes and involved in the dark businesses . So, meeting this humble policeman has given me new hope and optimism that one day the police force will be respected for their integrity, honesty and dedicated work for public interests.

สัปดาห์ที่แล้วขณะกำลังเดินมาจากวัดอินทรวิหาร เราเห็นกล้วยนํ้าว้าวางขายอยู่ข้างถนน ก็ตะโกนหาเจ้าของ เพราะอยากจะซื้อไปให้พนักงานรักษาความปลอดภัยตอนกลางคืน เราแปลกใจมากที่เจ้าของกลายเป็นตำรวจที่มีความสุภาพและเป็นมิตรกับประชาชน ไม่มีความกร่างหรืออาการเบ่งคับแก้วนํ้าเลย เขาบอกว่ามีเหลือแต่หวีเล็กๆ กล้วยลูกโตๆนั้น คนอื่นซื้อไปหมดแล้ว นื่เป็นกล้วยที่เขาปลูกเองที่สวนที่บ้านต่างจังหวัดที่สุพรรรบุรี เป็นกล้วยปลอดสารเคมี เขาขายหวีละ ยี่สิบบาท เราลองต่อราคาเล่นๆ แต่เขาก็ตกลงขายให้ สองหวีราคา สามสิบบาท ตำรวจคนนี้มีความอ่อนน้อมถ่อมตนมาก และรู้กชาวบ้านแถวนั้นแบบเพื่อน และยังบอกให้เรามาใหม่ต้นเดือนหน้า เพราะกล้วยสาวกำลังออกเครือ หวีใหญ่กว่านี้สองเท่า ชาวบ้านแถวนี้พากันจองกล้วยรุ่นใหม่แล้ว

เราดีใจมากที่ได้เจอตำรวจที่มีคุณธรรมและ ความเป็นมิตรกับประชาชน และเขาไม่อายในการทำมาหากินอย่างสุจริต โดยทั่วไปเรามักจะเห็นแต่ตำรวจที่คอยโบกรถจักรยานยนต์ และกระโดดออกมาจากใต้ต้นไม้เพื่อดักจับรถยนต์ที่อาจจะยังไม่ได้ต่อทะเบียน หรือพวกที่ชอบมาดักจับตอนรถแซงกันไปแล้ว และกำลังลดความเร็วบนทางมอเตอร์เวย์ ตำรวจคนนี้ทำให้เรามีความหวังว่า ต่อไปตำรวจนํ้าดีจะมีมากขึ้น ความจริงตำรวจดีมีมากแต่ไม่ค่อยเป็นข่าว เพียงมีตำรวจเลวๆไม่กี่คนก็ทำให้ปลาทั้งข้องเหม็นเน่าไปด้วย ตำรวจคนนี้คงไม่มีโอกาสรวยทรัพย์และมีอำนาจวาศนาเหมือนพวกที่ทำตามคำสั่งนักการเมือง หรือพวกที่ชอบไปยุ่งกับธุระกิจสีดำ แต่ชีวิตของเขาจะมีความสุขสงบเพราะ เขารู้จักการใช้ชีวิตกับเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง และความสันโดษนั่นเอง
