Sublime Sunday: Wind, Ice & Lighthouse
Hubs and I went for a drive today to check out the ice in the river in Lower Montague.
Getting out of the car we were greeted with strong gales and below zero temperature.
The waves had froze as they rocked back and forth washing into shore.
I didn’t stay outside the car very long as the wind was cold and biting.
Coming back to the main road, Georgetown can be seen across the water.
Fast Fact: Port of Georgetown has a collection of heritage buildings dating back to the late Victorian Era at the height of Georgetown's importance in the wooden shipbuilding industry.
There was some open water in the river.
We live on an Island but not everyone has a lighthouse in their yard! :)
I happened to notice the lighthouse as we drove by towards Montague. Perhaps the homeowner build it or moved it from it’s original site when the lighthouse was decommissioned.
I don’t want to close with the gloom and doom of a February day.
Here are flowers from my garden in summer with the busy bee.

wow redheadpei! That river only has the center of it that hasn't frozen yet and that's a big river! Very impressive and the way those waves froze is amazing!
Howdy there Cowboy. The cold can make some interesting designs. It’s near an area where three rivers meet- Montague, Cardigan and Brudnell.

Yes they are in PEI. There has been a recent almagamation of the areas and now referred to as Three Rivers. One mayor instead of three, etc., so may save the taxpayers a bit ....or not!
Howdy again redheadpei! you mean they are combining districts or something there? Why don't they just make the whole island one district? or are they? save the taxpayers money, that would be the day! lol.
Haha Cowboy, can you imagine all the hoopla to try to get anything done like combining Texas under one mayor. Same attitude Could be applied here.
This combining of 3 areas caused enough controversy.

Yes after voting and much grumbling, Montague, Georgetown and Cardigan are under one mayor now.
That’s a whole load of frozen river! We might get a canal freeze over now and again, but rivers are too fast flowing for it to happen. It must have been freezing cold in the wind chill, I don’t blame you not wanting to stay out in it.
The light house is very nice, you think someone did move it?

We had quite the deep freeze, Rob.
Somehow they manage to move the lighthouses. I have seen a few others that people have on their property. Most of the decommissioned lighthouses have been taken over and maintained by the community they are in and left in their original location.
I have never seen frozen waves! That is pretty remarkable!
What a difference a day or two makes. A few days ago the temperature was above freezing and the water was flowing freely.
We are under anther winter storm watch beginning tomorrow afternoon. I'm getting very tired of winter.
I know how you feel. I’m tired of it too. Still cold this morning. Hope your upcoming storm isn’t too bad.
They are predicting another 6-9 inches starting tonight. It just makes me get more and more excited about May.

Ooooh that looks cold.......and it does make for some very interesting photos @redheadpei. Now, I want my very own lighthouse! They must make great playrooms for kids, but maybe it is a glamorized man cave? Centrally heated of course! 😁
Haha Trudee @trudeehunter. I would love to have one of those lighthouses too. This one is quite small- just the right size to put where a passerby could see it...a great conversation piece.
