Wildflower series ~ seed edition

in #succulents5 years ago

The flowers I have been featuring recently are all plants that bloom early so that their seeds can be ready to germinate once the rainy season starts. These particular seed pods belong to one of the mesemb family, Delosperma herbeum or Highveld White vygie and their seed pods are adapted to only open when it is wet and close up as soon as it is dry. That
way, seeds are only released when they have a good chance of germinating.

I decided to make this image black and white because everything looks better in black and white but if you are wondering what the plant looks like, here it is:

This one has flower buds but there were no open flowers at the time. There were other plants nearby that were flowering but they had been pecked to pieces by the guineafowl. This one had leaves in better condition because it was hidden by the rocks and grass.

wow this is wonderful macro, looks lovely! amazing colour! Really impressed with b/w! adore the atmosphere, love your style nikv❤😊❤

Thank you

Your plants are so different than ours. I guess it's that adaptation to wet and dry where ours deal with warm and cold.

Pretty much

This is how interestingly nature intended. Seeds are produced only when there are conditions for their growth. Survival is always the strongest, and even plants and those that adapt to the environment in order to survive.

Nature is amazing that way
