Life’s Everyday Superheroes and How They Save the Day

in #superheroes7 years ago (edited)

One who is able to save someone from a certain situation that requires urgent help can be one of the simplest description for a Superhero.

The top superheroes that I acknowledge include my parents for everything they have done for me. As for situations that cover illness, I salute to the nurses and doctors of all specializations. Houses caught in fires as well as the people inside are saved by firefighters. Thanks to them and their speedy firetrucks filled with water. Of course, there are the detectives who chase the criminals and individuals who wish to disturb the peace.

Now, there are times that you don’t need to see a tragic incident or experience a life-and-death situation to see superheroes. You just have to open your eyes and heart as you look around.

Here are my TOP TEN SUPERHEROES of everyday life:

10. Blood Donors

S11.jpg

They always keep themselves physically fit in case a community activity drops by their town. Some might not always be able to uphold this standard everyday of healthy living, but upon hearing that a blood-letting program will soon occur in their area, they would be most willing to make sure that they had enough sleep (preferably eight hours of sleep or more) or had been well-rested, had no sickness that day, had eaten breakfast for that day, and had been feeling ultimately healthy before donating blood. Who knows? A person in desperate need for blood can be saved that day just by a blood donor volunteer.

9. Bus/Train Driver and Their Last Bus/Train Trip

S1.jpg

Any situation that have might extended your time to reach the last train to catch might put you in a nervous state or angry mood. However, when you are able to catch that last ride, the overthinking of not being able to stay wherever with ease can definitely be diminished or at most, disappear. Nothing beats peace of mind after a long day of travel and work and headache as you are surely on your way home because of that last trip.

Thanks to the people who are still willing to keep themselves awake to drive their last trip.

8. People Who Give Their Seats or Open the Door for Others

S9.jpg

We could describe most of the population in this category to be the gentlemen. They give their seats to ladies in buses, trains, or crowded areas with limited seats. Sometimes they open the door for ladies. If you had your arms full with groceries or bags that you have brought, their opening of the door would be much appreciated (I hope you do appreciate them).

However, they are not the only ones who do that and who can do that. Girls and boys, ladies and gentlemen can all do the same. Not only the ladies are the ones who deserve these gentle acts but also do the elderly, pregnant women, sick people, and persons with disabilities. I do not wish to imply that they are contributing burdens to other people, but rather we should see it as an opportunity to do a bit of random kindness to others. Opening doors and even sharing umbrellas can be a way of opening our hearts to them, or to anyone for that matter. Why not? These simple acts can give them comfort even for a short while in such a busy day for a busy world.

7. Employees and Services by 24/7 Stores and Outlets

S10.jpg

Have you ever arrived to your hometown at 2 am due to the heavy traffic you got stuck into? Or did you once encounter an accident on the road, causing you to miss your dinner as your stomach growls every passing minute? These 24/7 stores are definitely in your favor. They might not provide you that hearty dinner you desire but you can buy something that at least will ease the minor key singing in bass tone of that stomach of yours to make it through the night, or early morning if that is the case.

Stuck in a situation with no place to go? They can be your shelter. Well, if their store says that they are open for 24 hours, they definitely would not send you away, though I recommend you to at least make a purchase you can afford from their store. Surely you can think of ways of spending the night without availing all their services and still keep your valuables safe as you try to make it through the night.

I personally have tried this---twice alone and once with two friends that stayed for my sake.

6. Neighbors and/or Roommates

In our subdivision, whenever a certain child is terribly sick or a mother is about to give birth, even if it’s 12 midnight, the neighbors would ask the nearest neighbor if he would be kind to drive that sick child or pregnant mother to the hospital.

It does not always have to be during sleeping times that they help. Once our whole household experienced food poisoning due to food spoilage at lunch time. That early afternoon we were rushed to the hospital through a vehicle of our neighbor because it was quite an emergency.

Neighbors and/or roommates are the people you might first ask for help when loved ones are out of reach.

5. Dogs That Guard Your Houses

S8.jpg

Not everyone has dogs, I agree, and some would say, ‘why is it a superhero when it bites?’. Once, we only had one dog. Since we do not have a gate and a fence yet, we kept her inside. A few of our things were outside our house, but they were very defined to be in our premises. One day, our neighbors saw a man carrying an old washing machine almost near our premises. One of them inquired about the washing machine, and the man answered that the owner of the house had sold it to him. (It was very old so people would think it was junk already, but it was still functioning very well.

The neighbors knocked on our door. No one answered. They knocked again. This time only a barking dog answered. They knocked again, but only the dog that kept barking was to be heard. Our neighbors then chased the man carrying our washing machine. They knew that no one was in the house, and that old washing machine was not sold but stolen.
When we arrived, our neighbors explained the situation and how they found out that the old washing machine was almost stolen and not sold, just because of a dog that answered the knocking of the door.

4. That Special Person

IMG_6156.JPG

There is always at least one person that can change your day, definitely. It doesn’t have to be a daily dose of “Good morning!” or a long story of how that person’s day went (though it might be). As long those simple acts directed to you are done by that special person’s own way, they will reach you no matter what. Maybe that person sent you a link about cats which you love so much, that could uplift your day already. You were probably tagged in a group photo with that person, and you were already smiling upon viewing it. Probably a “Hi!” across the hallway is enough to build up your day again. It doesn’t have to be a complicated effort, for anything that comes from that special person has already a special place in your heart.

3. Baristas and Their Coffee, Of Course

S2.jpg

For students, people who find inspiration to do their work in coffee spaces, people who work overtime, those who have not enough sleep, and those who have no sleep, baristas and coffee can save your day. If you have a certain blend that definitely fits your taste, your barista can manage to draw that brew to your liking. I once had a hard time adjusting to the taste of expresso-based coffee, but the barista gave a few recommendations that would not stray from the expresso blend. I would be most willing to try it again!

Sometimes coffee does not come brewed whenever there are rushed reports, papers, documents and flowcharts to be prepared. Instant coffee or vending machines stand in cold or hot according to your preference. Whether brewed or instant, hot or cold, it can still help you make it through your day.

2. Smile

You might say, “What? A smile?” YES.
This day might be crumbling. It had one of the most horrible presentations you made. You spoke an unnecessary phrase to your supervisor. The anger you had for today was released to your child. You were charged incorrectly in the bus station. You pay was delayed. Could this day get any worse?

A smile passed on to you can uplift a spirit. When other people smile at you, they are expressing their happiness in them. Not all people who smile might be happy, but that very moment upon which they smiled counts as a way of hoping another person could be uplifted. The world can indeed be harsh, but there is no such thing as zero happiness. Why not smile, and try to appreciate more? Your crumbling day might try to build up, slowly. Pass it on.

1. Friends

S4.jpg

Whenever you are in an emotional distress due to a heartbreak, or sad for a promotion that you hoped but never came, or that failed exam that you never expected to be that difficult, your friends will always be there. They will tell you that your fly is open; they will tell you if you have spinach stuck on your teeth (though most likely they will laugh first before telling you); and they will be most willing to be the third wheel when you are going to simply have dinner with that special friend of yours. They will be your first supporters, and best critiques if your dress looks shabby, but they will frankly tell you the truth for your own good.

So, who are your everyday Superheroes?

Agreed! Very well-written.. However, in my view, every one of us is a superhero in our own distinctive ways. Life always presents us with opportunities and choices where we can either do good for ourselves, our society or this world, or on the other hand, we can be complete morons while we are in all our senses!

The true superhero is us, if we decide to live a better life, the one that might sound or seem difficult initially, but in the longer run it will surely benefit us and the people around us. The superhero lives in us, only if we can or want to find it, more than we usually do! If we can do that more often, trust me, this world will be a far better place to live in! :)

Indeed, we are superheroes in the way that we choose to be if we decide how we would like to be one. We are always free to decide what to do based on the opportunities presented to us, and some decisions lead to a better life.
I might have focused on seeing the superheroes in other people, and missed that we are also one ourselves. Thank you for your insights, @zaidi! :)
