Utopian supports is Battery Steem Disposal Recipients and Recollection Program. by @leotrap

As you know, @utopian.io support extends not only to contributors to open source, but also Steem blockchain initiatives that help grow and develop the Steem ecosystem.
One of the latest additions to the list of initiatives Utopian supports is Battery Steem Disposal Recipients and Recollection Program. by @leotrap in Uruguay.

All over the World we have something in common, we use Batteries and they harm our Ecosystem.*

Don’t even matter if is the basic Alkaline one, or the Nickel metal hydride and nickel cadmium batteries that we can find in electronics such as cordless power tools, digital cameras, or general devices, Lithium-ion batteries that we use for portable devices such as cellphones and laptops or even the Small button acid batteries that are used for watches (And this ones are the worst of them).

▪ The Problem…

People use to drop batteries to litter and that is a very huge problem because when batteries are dropped in the Municipal garbage deposit after some time because of the water and liquids it starts to leach out of soil, water supplies, landfills and ocean.

Even the one that are supposed to be sure for drop in waste, the alkaline type still do contain trace amounts of mercury and other potentially toxic stuff. And better don’t about Lithium-ion ones that just contains the most hazardous materials and are more than harmful to the environment and people

For example when Cadmium dissolves it seep into groundwater that people use to drink and goes to the ocean. And when waste is incinerated the toxic heavy metals sealed up inside gets into the fire emissions and finally to the air we breathe or into rain.

But I just don’t want to talk too much about the problem, and yes about the solution at least for a little part of the earth, the place in where I live and cooperate in that way to teach Kids about how to start being aware of taking care of our planet and why not?

Show them and their parents what a Descentralized Blockchain can do and how it can be used.

▪ How?

Well… starting a program that involucrate all the parts. Educational Centers, Government, Steem Blockchain and Fundition

For that, we are working in a “take back” recollection program that will be initiated with the majority of the private Schools, High Schools and Universities in town giving them specific Battery Boxes to don’t be a part of the waste stream.

Government will be working with us to make the final deposit of the batteries, let’s see if we can also make the recollection with them and the Steem Blockchain will support the project.

We are going to be working over the Program progress about the Battery Boxes, design and materials and we are going to show the ideas and the real possibilities that we think are the best.

Next to those Battery Boxes will be two sided printed flyers that will have in one side all the information about what FUNDITION is and what STEEMit is too to encourage people to start making their accounts and be envolved into the Blockchain creating in that way a local and strong community of new Steemians.
