What tags to use for beginners

I wrote this article once but it got erased or somehow vanished....but is still on my page. Anyways I'll try this again. Being new to Steemit it's hard to get your post noticed. This is where tags play a big part.

You can take your time to check all of your sentences, punctuation and spelling but still get very few upvotes. Are you properly tagging your post? Just because you are using the most popular tags doesn't mean they are relevant to your article.

Choosing a tag

This is when things get interesting. When you are on the main feed page of your account, you can see the list of tags on the left side. It should look something like this.

If you look at the bottom of the list you will see it view all tags. Click that and you can sort the tags by tags alphabetical, how many posts with that tag, comment received on that tag and the payout when using that tag. It looks like this.

Which one? Most popular, biggest payout?

Sometimes the answer is neither of those. Many times the most popular or big payout tags have so many posts that yours will go unnoticed. I've found that using more specific tags, many of them not on the list of main tags, will help you gain a more organic audience.

Find what works for you

Experiment with your tags. Try some popular tags, try some tags not on the list. Eventually you will find a group of folks who have similar interests. Most of these groups will have their own tags made up.
