The Good Old Fashion - Apam Balik - In a smaller, but juicer size!
Apam Balik
Also known as 曼煎粿 (ban jian kuih) has always been my childhood all time quick-snack-hunger-pang-fix favourite, and it has always been easily found during my young days at wet markets.
Being originated from the Chinese community, Apam Balik has always been a Chinese culture delicascy for afternoon snacks (or even Sunday's breakfast) ; or it is a mornig snack food for kids who's parents manage to get a hot warm piece from the wet market early in the morning.
But ever since moving to the capital city after 1/4 of my life, the existence of a really good Apam Balik like the olden days at my hometown is really hard to find.
Until on my way back after a really long day with my dad at the hospital for his checkup, I found this little small stall, by the roadside of a bank, where he, as a Malaysian (not of Chinese race origin) serves a slightly smaller size of Apam Balik
This is the serving of just 2 apam balik. That's actually enough to feed 3 people to the brim!
It's size is not the usual 1 foot long fold over pastry (that usually chops into 12 pieces in total), but about 1/3 of its size, still packed with juicy butter, peanut and caster sugar; but this stall has an extra punch. He adds sweet corn into it, making the Apam Balik to able to keep its moist a little longer.
For those who prefers the good old fashion of ground peanut chunks and sugar, this will be a different kick of added fibre.
Verdict?
Being almost 1 USD a piece it serves a MUCH bigger lasting appetite, and if compared to 1 EURO plain waffle in Brussels, this piece definitely wins.
It will definitely fill you up well and warm if you take the whole piece. However, he always chops the whole piece into four so that you don't have to feel overwhelmed.
Each piece is MYR3.

My husband also loves apam balik. As for myself, I am not a big fan of apam balik.
Now they do have many flavours of apam balik. I love the corn and peanuts combination.

Have you tried the thin version of apam Balik? It's kind of rare to find these days.
More like crunchy crêpe but still has the same ingredients
