TacoCat's TrEats #32: The Best Hokkien Mee in SG 😋

It was pretty difficult to choose a specific dish for this contest because Singapore has sooo many good local dishes! If you've ever visited Singapore before, you know that like many other countries in the SEA region, we're a food paradise! Hawker centres are the hub of the most local dishes and can be found all over Singapore. You can read more about them in my post here!
Anyway, the dish I chose today is called Hokkien Mee! It is a Southeast Asian dish, popular in Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian and Thai cuisines, with origins from the cuisine of China's Fujian (Hokkien) province, thus the name. In its most common form, the dish consists of egg noodles and rice noodles stir-fried with egg, pork slices, prawns and squid. It is then garnished with vegetables, small pieces of lard, sambal sauce and lime (for adding the lime juice to the dish).
Hokkien Mee is actually one of my favourite noodle dishes, but for the longest time I haven't been able to find a particularly memorable stall, until recently!
I stayed in the Western part of Singapore for a little while during my last semester of college and my friend brought us to eat at this famous stall in a small hawker centre.
Apparently this stall has been around for quite a long time as many locals in the area are very familiar, and there's always a long queue during peak hours.
So far I've only eaten here about 3 times, but I'm never disappointed. It tastes so goood! 😋
The noodles are stir-fried really well, and you can taste the prawn and seafood in the noodles and gravy (it's a little on the wetter side). The accompanying sambal sauce is really tasty too, and there's a box of fried lard at the stall so you can help yourself to all the crispies you want. The portions are also quite sizable, and definitely worth the price.
For me, the highlight of hokkien mee is the tasty noodles; not so much the seafood, so if you're looking for the squid and prawns you might not be very satisfied because they're a little small (like most hokkien mee stalls, tbh). But I think the noodles more than make up for it.
