More Dual Citizen Drama

Today the high court of Australia passed judgement on the fate of SEnator Katy Gallegher and ruled that she was indeed ineligible to be sitting in the Australian Senate.

This has lead to 4 other resignations today, that of Susan Lamb (my federal member), Justine Keay, Josh Wilson and Rebekha Sharkie.

The question that I put to you though, is why won't these members be forced to pay back the grants they recieved by the tax payer for their election wins?

Back when Pauline Hanson was wrongly indicted and imprisoned, she was forced to pay back over $500,000, which she managed to do. So hasn't the precedent been set that should require these people to make recompense for their illegal actions?

Then how about the tens of millions of borrowed dollars that we are going to have to pay for the 4 new by-elections. For those of you unaware, its only 4 because Katy Gallagher is a senator, so the Labor party can just appoint a replacement for her position.

If you look deeper, the Labor member for Perth, Tim Hammond has also resigned to "Spend more time with his family". I'm sorry but that is a rubbish excuse. You have made a contract with the people of the electorate that you will represent them for the next term of parliament. So come hell or high water you better represent them. If you decide its not for you, then why do the Australian Public need to pay for your change of heart.

Lastly, something that most people probably don't know, is that in these by elections, the costs of the campaign actually fall on the candidate, and at least with the Liberal Party, the party won't pay for it. So all those posters and flyers etc aren't being paid for by Tax money, rather the candidate themselves. This may not be the same rules with the Labor Party who have infinite sums of money thrown at them by militant unions, but everyone else goes it alone.

Its time the political class sat up and took notice of the bleeding tax payer and took some action. But we all know that nothing will change any time soon.

They want to suck us dry!

I don't know how this can be an issue. I have never run for parliament but at some point in time I imagine that they would have had to sign a form declaring that they are indeed eligible to run.

If the average pleb in Australia fills out a government form with incorrect information, or we sign an affidavit, or we sign a statutory declaration with false information, we can be prosecuted for that. It seems our politicians aren't subject to the same rules.

They should make financial restitution and pay a fine at the very least.
