The Traffic Light Within

Whenever I drive past any traffic lights, I will hear a voice resonating in my mind: Green means go. Red means stop. Yellow means slow down. That's actually what my son would say EVERYTIME he sees one. Although I was driving alone today, I could still "hear" that little cute voice.

Sometimes, our conscience works that way too, just a gentle little cute voice. Sometimes, it can be a loud warning voice for us to change gear or even stop. Sometimes, it gives us a push into something we should do. Sometimes, it tells us to slow down and breathe. It is like there's a part of you talking to you, perhaps the innermost you who know what is to be done and what's not to, the "hmm" and the "A-ha!" Whether we choose to listen to it or not, the traffic light within will still speak.

With that, we can choose with the guidance of the traffic light within. Yes, it can be ignored. Conscience though being part of us, can be dismissed. It actually knows what exactly is going on, but it can be denied. At times, some of us may still race past the red light or sometimes the "traffic light" can be hidden behind some trees like in Malaysia and we missed it. It's okay, just try again whenever we "see" the traffic light. The thing is because we are created and wired in such a manner that we will hear our conscience so anytime we don't, it gives an uneasy feeling.

On the other hand, if we take heed, when the action is carried out accordingly, we can feel a deep sense of satisfaction or even gratification from within. No human is exempted from this and it is more than just morally right or wrong. It is part of being a human.

Lastly, happy voting, Malaysians and please travel safe! We should own up our citizenship and do our part.
