Hainanese chicken rice is what many of us considered as comfort food. It is said to be a dish that was adapted from early Chinese immigrants originally from Hainan province in southern China. Also, claimed to be one of the national dishes of Singapore. Hainanese chicken rice is most commonly associated with Singaporean and Malaysian cuisines, although it is also popular in Thailand, where it is known as Khao Man Gai, and also in Vietnam and Indonesia. It is based on a well-known Hainanese dish called Wenchang chicken (文昌雞), due to its adoption by the Hainanese overseas Chinese population in the Nanyang area. I was told that Catherine Ling of CNN describes Hainanese chicken rice as one of the "40 Singapore foods we can't live without". It's also listed at number 45 on World's 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN Go in 2011. In Malaysia, as in Singapore, chicken rice is available in many Chinese coffee shops, restaurants and street hawker stalls, and also in chain restaurants such as The Chicken Rice Shop and OldTown White Coffee.

Today, I patronize a famous chicken rice shop in Petaling Jaya. 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice @ Jalan Gasing. They started with just one shop & no air-conditioner. Imagine the heat of over 35 degrees & trying to enjoy the food layed on the table. Over the years, the owner realized that cool air is important in order to keep the customers happy. Now, the restaurant is fully air-conditioned & has expanded to two shoplots. The que just doesn't stop & families ( small or large ) keep on coming in.

Tables are cleared over & over again for new incoming customers. The food.. delicious ! The meat of the chicken is so tender & juicy that one just cannot help themselves to second or third helping. Though I don't fancy meat & rice, I'll give an exception just this once.. ha ha..

So, if you're in this part of town, drop by & visit this restaurant. You can't miss it ! The que is not just for the tables but also for the limited car park lots in front of the restaurant.
