The passing of Jan-Michel Vincent. He played the iconic Stringfellow Hawke in the classic TV Series from the 80s, Airwolf.
The intro beat from the theme song alone gives you the adrenaline rush to suit up and get ready for action. Listening to it alone can make you close your eyes and believing that you are actually flying, fighting an epic aerial dogfight.
It plants on your mind that everytime you hear that tune and you see the Airwolf blade starts spinning,
Dominic Santini pressing all those buttons, - things are going to be OK and the bad guys are going to get it.
It is the kind of assurance you get, if you were an American kid back then watching it, that you can trust your rulers to take care of the nation (apart from demonising the rest of the world lol)
It is the kind of imagery that TV back then gives you. Great characters, story and a kick ass theme song that sounds bad ass even today.
And Airwolf super combat helicopter itself. It just open up your imagination on what is possible.
It made me wanting to be a fighter pilot. To be a man, to be a team player, to be an obedient soldier and to fight evil threatening the nation, to fight against all odds and to rise from the fall.
I think the role of TV is just as important as cinema. It has almost the same impact on nation building and education.
