NOOB FILM REVIEW : CROSSROADS : ONE TWO JAGA - A TABOO

I am still at joy watching this the second time today on Netflix after catching it on day one in the cinema. The things that you as a Malaysian would never have expected to see, especially if it is on the brutal reality of life, and knocking on the doors of truth, which was being forbidden in the past.

The timing of the movie can’t be any better. The cinema release after the General Election victory of the Opposition party in Malaysia, which is also you as a Malaysian would never have expected to see.

But rejoice, as it is no longer a taboo to call a spade is a spade. To no longer rely on parodies to take a shot on those in power (although they understand it not) and to serve the genre to the public about the life in Malaysia so that we can finally say ‘we can relate to that’ instead of potraying something pretentious and deceptive.

Indonesian workers dealing with a son and sister’s survival, crossing roads (the movie title, aptly) with the auhorities. The authorities dealing with morale values choosing between practicing justice or personal survival in the concrete jungle. The very dark, untold tales behind every ‘development’ you see, potrayed aptly in one of the shot where the city skyline at the far back with foreign workers walking on the foreground in isolation of the whole ‘progress of the nation’.

It is a screenshot of time where different lives from different sects of life intersect. Resulting in collissions that contributes or cancel each other.

Dead son. Dead husband. Fatherless kids. All in the name of protecting power and the flow of money. Like one line from the movie saying “As long a s the big ones remain free, we will always have this problem”

We all know we have finally got the big ones in our hands now.
