Disclaimer: This review is from my perspective as a viewer with little or no knowledge of films and how they are made. What is written is entirely how I feel about the movie from my personal view as a movie fan and not a film critique. Also, note my limited English vocabulary in describing things and the absence of film-making terms and jargons. My take on the movie and its understanding are also probably based on the life that I went through as a person, as I think films touch these elements most of the time in terms of story. I hereby apologize for any error in touching those matters. Also, I have a very short-term memory so the review might miss talking about some parts

SYNOPSIS

A gripping tale of a pair of siblings journey of survival in the city, with the older one (WEN GUANG) is autistic. The younger brother (DIDI) is looking after him since the passing of the mother when they were very young.

When GUANG turned 27 he has develop this strange habit of responding to sound frequency. This, has then bring the brotherly relationship to a crossroad, where it is becoming apparent that they have to deal about being different to each other.

Superb visuals that sync seamlessly with the audio, taking you from one scene to another. Colors of scene lighthing and matching sound sets the mood for the audience.

It is a cinematic experience I am not expecting watching this movie genre. Camera movements, screenplay and framing is one the dot and makes the audience reading the frames effortlessly.

REVIEW (spoiler)

Very beautifully done movie.

GUANG has put on a mission to redeem himself from the guilt of his childhood.
The guilt that he didn't play his musical instrument for a school concert.
The guilt of disappointing his late mother.

All after that old memories being sparked by the same tune (There's no place like home) played in a doorbell during one of his job interview.

Redeem himself by building a musical instrument made out of glasses and bowls (for not being able to afford a piano) and play the same tunes, now that he is 27 years old, as one way to say sorry.
As one way to say how he missed his childhood.
As one way to say how he missed his old home.
As one way to say how he missed his mother.

DIDI also is brought back to the realization that how the late mother told both of them to be with each other no matter what.

The climactic scene of GUANG playing the finished instrument is one to remember.

At the time when our Malaysian unity is being questioned, this movie is one of the way to tell those people that we are indeed without question, is forever united.

Another Malaysian movie in 2018 to be proud of.

My Noob Rating : 4.5/5
