Noob Film Review - M for Malaysia by Ineza Roussille & Dian Lee

9th May 2018 will stand forever in the annals of Malaysia as the day when the unthinkable happened. The 60 year rule of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional has ended by the democratic process of election. Even though it all happened in that one day, the events leading to this defeat of the regime has been building gradually by the scandals surrounding Najib Razak and 1MDB (we all know the story)

This documentary follows the journey of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad during the campaigning period of the Malaysian 14th General Election. Footages are taken mostly from Tun’s grand daughter Ineza Roussille camera’s POV and it provides a backstage pass to the happenings during that period. It shows the toil of a 93 year old man where the hope for change lies. Behind every man there stand a woman and it is of course Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah whos at 92, is with Tun all the way through.

A nonagenarian couple at the top end of an election campaign machinery against a 60 year old regime. Let that sink in a bit.

Able and willing
But the victory on the 9th of May only comes after so many political moves done by Tun. His exit from UMNO, the establishment of BERSATU and the coalition with DAP and PKR to form PAKATAN HARAPAN. Najib Razak’s BARISAN NASIONAL finally has a new challenger. The people can finally ride this new coalition towards change.

And after a cliffhanger of a night awaiting the election outcome, change finally happened. For this today we see Najib Razak is on trial for the biggest cleptocracy case in history. While some still cry over free toll.

Instead of M for Malaysia, it can also be M for Mahathir as it is actually the story of his plight leading the fight. Ineza Roussille with her team has done a great job in gathering the footages from multiple sources and mixing it into this epic historical piece. It can also be M(Mahathir) for Malaysia for what he has orchestrated in answering the SOS call from the people of Malaysia.

I cannot see how Najib apologists can bare sitting down watching this one. For others, this one will give you the goose bump.
