Disclaimer: This review is from my perspective as a viewer with little or no knowledge of films and how they are made. What is written is entirely how I feel about the movie from my personal view as a movie fan and not a film critique. Also, note my limited English vocabulary in describing things and the absence of film-making terms and jargons. My take on the movie and its understanding are also probably based on the life that I went through as a person, as I think films touch these elements most of the time in terms of story. I hereby apologize for any error in touching those matters. Also, I have a very short-term memory so the review might miss talking about some parts and this will contain spoilers

The Story

1.jpg
About a band of young men performing for festivals when their leader Theva (played by Denes Kumar), bump into his love interest. The story then revolves around introducing the relationship of the members of the band, particularly the three of them which is Theva, Jing Cha and CocoJelly. They are finding ways to get into contact with Theva's crush, Vithya (played by the lovely Sangeeta Krishnasamy ) and found out her fashion job in the capital of Kuala Lumpur (where Theva and the boys were performing I think)
7.jpg
They got close and Theva found an easy frequent ride to Kuala Lumpur through someone called the Boss.
Little does Theva know that the Boss deals with a sinister crime gang operating in Kuala Lumpur.

Theva lost his mother in a snatch thief incident where she got injured which led to her death. A similar fate looking to befall him as Theva unknowingly rides with Boss in one of his snatch run and with a cruel twist of fate, Vithya is the victim.
5.jpg
Hell break loose as Vithya's brother is a high ranking policeman and Theva is the only one caught with Boss on the loose.

Hence they went through to prove Theva's innocence, nab the Boss and praying that Vithya does not suffer the same fate as Theva's late mother.

The Show

Its colorful and explosive to say the least. I can say that I have never watch a single Tamil movie until the end but I grew up watching alot of Hindustan movies. I love the vibrance of colors which plays very well into the up times in the story and also the dark palletes where Theva was nabbed by the cops in the rainy night scene.
3.jpg
A strong message the director and the writer (Denes Kumar and Dr. Vimala Perumal) trying to convey here when an old man dressed in a muslim traditional attire come and attend to the injured Theva infront of a Hindu temple from day until the rainy night.
2.jpg
Dynamic play of camera, alot of good usage of drone shots and one of the most spectacular moment in the whole movie is the slow motion of the car theft scene. I just not sure if its done in the special effects department of is it practical (a bit too risky but hey) but regardless, it looked spectacular.

Also the epic jump!

To me what the movie trying to show is that in one generation, (Theva's mother) to the time of Vithya the same social ill has not been fixed. Both was a victim of the same criminal act and something extra needs to be done. Maybe pointing to the very weakness in governance? education?

Breaking a record

It has beaten the RM 1 million barrier in ticket sales collection in around 8 weeks of screening time. A record that is previously held by the movie Maindhan which collected RM903,000.

I tried to get a ticket when it was screening but still couldnt do it even up to the last showing in MBO Kepong. But I was lucky enough KLFS (Kuala Lumpur Film School) organised a free screening and appreciation with Dr Vimala and Denes Kumar present as guests! Also in the session was Othman Hafsham, Hassan Muthalib and U-Wei. - I can't just get any luckier.

Congrats to the production team for a great movie! The movie is also in the work on penetrating Indian screens, made possible with the inclusion of professionals from India in the production of the film, which is one of the many conditions.

2018 has been monumental for Malaysian movie scene and hopefully its a start of something bigger. Amen
