SYNOPSIS

A gripping tale about a gang of extortionists in Kuala Lumpur using their taxis to spy on and collect info about their targetted victim. One of their younger hot-headed members always creates unnecessary trouble that risks the whole gang. One complete job was done at the beginning of the movie and it has started a chain of events which puts them in the middle between the police and a bigger crime syndicate with their family mainly at stake.

NO SPOILER REVIEW

As I was pleasantly surprised by what I see in One Two Jaga last year, this one sets the bar even higher. The deeper (dirtier) fictional local law enforcement character like how I never see before on local cinema screen. It's nice that the term fictional is understood further now, unlike last time where characters such as the law enforcers and VVIPs must be portrayed as angels and will never do anything wrong.

We have a young super-rich Malay Dato', a corrupt son of a foreign ambassador, taxis used for crime, "legal" gambling centers, interrogation violence and more.

I have no complaints about the look of the movie except at the beginning where I was trying to figure out what is going on. The pacing was too fast but after that things got clearer.

There's no musical soundtrack used in the movie but I noticed an old-western like song being used and wondered why.
It's been used in the beginning and at the end credit and also in many of the scenes. I think there's a reason.

If you think One Two Jaga is good, you should go and watch this one. Heck, even if you think One Two Jaga was not good or you haven't even watched One Two Jaga, just go and watch this one.

The highlight of the whole movie is the moving performance of Bront Palare as Inspektor Kamal and Frederick Lee as Jared. But Bront's character has more depth as you will find out by the end. Next is the performance of Sunny Pang as the Chinaman.

Screenplay by Dain Said and story by Ivan Yeo. Directed by Zahir Omar

I will put this on par with the other local crime thriller that I have recently seen such as Songlap, One Two Jaga and Satte. This movie shows that you don't even have to pull a "KL Gangster" samseng fakeries to show the darkness behind the curtains. It's all in what being said, the look on their eyes and the stakes at hand.

4.5/5
