Producing EDM vs Producing Hiphop

It isn’t really obvious the differences between producing these two genres, but generally speaking, the drums are something that almost stands the same between those two. Kicks are really important in both the genres, as it really stands as something that keeps the tempo and gels everything together (same goes for the snare).

The usage of synths are actually the biggest differences between the two genres. EDM utilizes alot of synths in it’s producing styles, as hiphop doesnt utilize synths commonly. Synths are the main instrument of edm as compared to HipHop, whos main things are keys and samples (more common on the olden times).

Other than that, the vocal processing techniques are quite different as well, with EDM vocals being processed in a “wetter” way, drowned in reverb to give an atmospheric feeling a mix. Hiphop relies on litte to no reverb on its vocals, making the vocals easily focused by the audiences and understand their lyrics.
