TRAVEL MALAYSIA: Top 5 Healthy Eateries in KL - An expat guide

I'm originally from the UK, where you can grab a healthy food fix pretty much anywhere. Thankfully over the past 5 years London has really developed it's local, healthy food scene with healthy cafes along with vegetarian and vegan eateries flooding the city.

KL has healthy offerings too! Although I will say they are a little harder to find. Here's my top 5 go-to places for healthy, nutritious food with great vegetarian options in KL and Selangor.

1. Dr.Inc (buffet)

This quirky establishment is famous for its delicious local and western food and it's chilled out vibe. Come on Tuesday or Friday from 12-3pm for their vegetarian buffet for only 30RM nett! An absolute steal if you ask me and with their counter top filled with the most colourful, exciting vegetarian dishes, I can promise you will not be disappointed!
Plus I really love what Dr.Inc stands for. It's a plastic free estbalishment full of creative, unique furniture and wall art. A truly different vibe. All the food is made from scratch and you'll find some truly healthy, wholesome dishes here, especially at the buffet. It's worth noting that this isn't a vegetarian cafe, only the buffet is. By far the best buffet in the city.

Snaps from my last visit to the Dr.Inc buffet

Dr.Inc -  8, Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar, 59000 Kuala Lumpur

 2. Rubberduck

Wander around Plaza Damas and you'll quickly discover Rubberduck, a tropical cafe serving up some delicious, healthy, western grub. A little overpriced, but a fantastic ambience and good quality dishes. My only qualm would be that the portion sizes can be a liiiittle on the small side. Another non-vegetarian restaurant, but some healthy menu options. Some of my favourite things to eat here are:

The poke bowl

The smoothie bowl

Rubberduck - 60 Jalan Sri Hartamas 1, Plaza Damas, Lot K-0-8B (Ground Floor), Dorchester Service Apartment, 50480 Kuala Lumpur

3. Fittie Sense

Hidden upstairs in Bangsar Baru, Fittie Sense serves up healthy dishes for veggies and non-veggies. The restaurant plays with flavours and has thought up some filling, wholesome concotions using healthy alternatives. Lots of coconut going on here! A great place to come for a healthy, flavoursome fuel after a workout. One of my favourite concepts in Bangsar and still relatively unknown.

4. Goodness Greens/ La Juiceria Superfoods

I've loved this place since their first outlet in TTDI. In my opinion, their best outlet is at Nadi Bangsar. With an aim to make Malaysians healthy, Goodness Greens or La Juiceria Superfoods, as it's sometimes known, is great for variety, salads and cold-pressed juice. I love eating here, but couldn't survive without their Vital Shots! They keep me healthy and fight off colds extra fast. Their build-your-own salads and breakfasts are the best thing to go for here!

Various outlets around the city. My favourite is La Juiceria Superfoods at Nadi, Bangsar

5. Salad Atelier

You can't get a bowl of nutrition any quicker or easier than a super fresh salad! Salad Atelier is a salad chain with 6 outlets around the city, serving up healthy, hearty, fresh salads made to order. They have salads, sandwiches, wraps and much more.  Their poke bowls are pretty awful so don't go near them. The salads on the other hand are another level. I usually have veggie or vegan salads here. Although i'm a pescatarian, their fish isn't the freshest although their veggies are perfect. I love this place because it's simple and nutritious. Plus they deliver too! Get them on Ubereats.

Some decent looking places to get your healthy fix! We didn't know about these places when we were in KL last year, but we weren't looking for them. Straight to the night market and cheap eats area. Next time, we won't be a touristy as we were.

You should definitely try them out next year! Are you planning on going back?

No planned trip yet. Maybe later this year or next. Depends where we are come January. If we're still in S.E.A. then yes, but if not then our visit would be delayed even further! Still your post will be easily found whether we search for it tomorrow or in five years 😊 It's on the blockchain now.

Very goOd post..

Thanks so much!
