Eduardo Kobra Mural - 911 Fire Fighter tribute
Walking around the city I have seen so much art, some amazing and some tacky, and after being here os long I never think I will see something new that just takes my breath away, but I was proven wrong recently as I was walking down 49th Street towards 3rd Ave, and came across this Mural

This is a Mural by Eduardo Kobra, a Brazillian Street Artist, who has apparently added about 15 new murals around NYC, and this is the first of his new pieces that I have seen.
I have seen some of his work in the past and I love the vibrant colors and style of his work, but this one really caused me to stop in my tracks and admire his work, I feel it is a beautiful tribute to fire Fighters and indeed other First responders who often put their own life at risk to protect the rest of us.

This second shot I zoomed in to show some of the detail in this beautiful piece of art, I am sure many know but in case your wondering about the significance of the number 343 on the helmet, it is to highlight the number of firefighters who gave their lives while responding to the 911 tragedy.

This last shot I got with the person in shot so you get a sense of the scale of this mural.
Now I have read online that some complain that this mural is too colorful and bright for a tribute to such a tragedy, I however feel it is a wonderful tribute to the firefighters.
What are your thoughts on this?

Certainly a wonderful tribute to those brave men JJ and it should be even bigger and more colorful. I am sure that the moaners also would want this if they were to fight fires and save people. Blessings!

Standing purely on artistic perspective, this work is a brilliant and award winning work. But it goes beyond that. It brings history and tragedy back to our attention. And on top of that brings to fore, the humanitarian and heroic nature of our being.

It is a very compelling image and the pose really does summon up the grief of that event and the vibrancy of the image makes me think of the lives of those 343 who were just trying to help.
The bright colours in my view make it all the more poignant.
All of the colour was washed out of the lives of so many people due to this event.

Awesome art, I will definitely go see it, thank you so much for sharing the location. The colors are bright, but they should be like that, to make the whole mural and the message beyond it STAND OUT, because firefighters deserve it. Also, I believe the colors fade with time and natural elements. Hopefully this mural will preserve its beauty for many years to come. 😊
I thought it was breathtaking, I have since found 3 other murals by the same person, which are all great but this one by far stands out the most for me and its well worth visiting

Thank you for the link, I checked... these murals are brand new, no wonder I never saw them. Hopefully I will get a job in Manhattan so I can spend more time there and maybe see them all. 😉
I am going to try and catch them all initially the Manhattan ones, I have got to see 4 of them so far, hopefully I can try and catch another two tomorrow if I am feeling OK int he morning
