ULOG 3: HAVOC RAINSTORM PUTS MANY IN DESPAIR; MANY ROOFS CARRIED AWAY, ROOMS TURN TO POOL OF WATER.

in #teardrops6 years ago (edited)

Hello, welcome to this edition of my ulog. This edition was not an exciting experience, but I praise God for everything.

Many dwellers of the city of Owerri the Imo State capital taught it was the usual rain which normally rain everyday within this period of the month as it started raining at about 9:15pm yesterday 8/6/2018.
Few minutes into the rain, it began to show that this particular rain is far from the usual rains as not only was the rain extremely heavy but also came with a heavy wind that started shaking the foundation of houses.
In a matter of minutes, many roofs began to give way for the wind as it overpowered the roofs and blow them away.

The storm and wind which lasted for an hour and some minutes left not less than 50 families in despair as it either blew away their roof completely or it fold the some roofs which resisted its force and this gave way for the heavy downpour to pour them directly in their rooms.

The situation left the whole city in blackout as the public power supply company quickly switched off electricity from the city due to the level of damages the storm put on almost all electrical infrastructure and installation within the city.

Many dwellers of the city were simply flabbergasted by the level of havoc the storm rendered but private and public properties in the city. Farmers are not left out as the wind equally destroyed many crops and in some cases used roof and planks in pulled from nearby house to destroy farm crops.
Water channels and drainages overflowed and floods find its way into people’s houses and offices. As this incident occurred in the night, many families could not pick up even their bed before the flood covered everywhere. No one could even think of videoing or taking pictures of the scenes as everyone scampered for safety.

I spent the major part of the day helping a carpenter fix the roof of my office which the wind touched.

Carpenters are making quick money from the situation as many people are in urgent need of their services,

The dwellers of the city are however very grateful to God that this rain and storm which many said is the first of its kind did not rain in the day time as many people could have sustained injuries it occurred during the busy hours of the day.

How unfortunate! It is really terrible when natural occurrences destroy homes. There is nothing natural about it. For the past years, strong storms have destroyed homes and displaced families here in our country. It is really saddening. Some have not yet recovered from it and is still in dire situation.

Quite saddening indeed, what else can we do than accept the situation and adjust accordingly. Thanks for coming around.
