WHY DISCORD IS PERFECT FOR CHATTING THAN WHATSAPP.

Chatting here doesn't apply to one on one chats alone (the private chats), group discussions are involved too. These apps has given us a platform to discuss with our loved ones, be in a discussion with so many people, speak and hear their voices without having to call them with that precious recharge card. I have both apps running on my mobile phone and I must confess, both are amazing. I use Discord for Crypto related matters while WhatsApp remains my chatting app (mostly for fun).

One big edge WhatsApp has over discord is the simple user interface and cool notification system. It's very easy for a newbie to understand how WhatsApp works. If you can read and write, you are good to go. The notification system is way too cool. Once you see that WhatsApp symbol at the top of your screen, it indicates that you have unread messages. You can swipe down your screen from the top and view those messages without having to click and read it on the app. Big kudos to WhatsApp developers here. Discord hasn't done well in this part.

Hey! I'm about to tell you why you should ditch WhatsApp for Discord, it wouldn't be bad if I reveal the spoilers on Discord right?

Discord doesn't have a simple user interface. You can't tell a newbie to download the app and chat you up, and expect him/her to find it easy. It gets harder when that newbie joins a group (server), it's not like WhatsApp groups you join and converse easily. Discord groups comprises of different channels. And that's one fun fact about it. But, it's just not user friendly.

One thing I hate about Discord is the notification system. WhatsApp notifies you whether you are online or not. Discord will stop notifying you if you don't open the app after 30 minutes. They believe you are offline and you should come get your notifications once you open the app. I've missed lots of important information because of this. The way the notification comes in is awkward too; there are times you will get more than one Discord symbol at the top of your screen. It shows you have more than one notification.

Ignore this and you will love discord. Here are reasons why it is better than WhatsApp.

Editing Messages.

This feature is just amazing. You've probably been in a situation where you typed the wrong message and there was no way to edit it. It's either you delete that message and type in the right message or you point out where you typed the wrong word.

Discord has an "edit" function. You can click that message and edit it. Cool right? Unless WhatsApp is trying to bring in this function, then they can compete. This is just the beginning of the amazing features present in Discord.

Admin control.

The only thing an Admin can do on WhatsApp is add members, provide and revoke the group link and remove members. Recently, they added a feature enabling only admin to chat. An Admin can't really do much on a WhatsApp group, he or she can't reduce spamming on the group, when members violate rules, the only thing he can do is warn or remove them.

A Discord mod can delete a message, restrict members from doing certain things. He or she takes full control of the group. In fact, Discord is the perfect place for group discussions.

Voice activities.

You can speak to someone on WhatsApp, but can you talk to all of them in a group at the same time? Definitely no! Just the way you chat with people on a group, you can talk to them on Discord on a voice channel. I'll like to see WhatsApp implement this.

Just click and connect!

Reactions to messages.

This is something I haven't seen in any other app. It makes chatting fun. If you want to react to messages on WhatsApp, you will have to create another message with the emoji. You can simply click on that message on Discord, it will bring out options; "Add reaction" should be the next thing you will click.

Order of messages.

I'm not sure I put this right, but this is what I meant. There are times you send a message in a group and it doesn't get delivered due to network error. When your network eventually connects, many messages might have been sent before your own message gets delivered. You won't know this on WhatsApp. Your message will be placed on where you sent it. The right order will be displayed on another person's phone but not on yours.

Discord will place your message in the right order. If three messages were sent before yours got delivered, you will see those messages and yours beneath them.

Creating sub groups in a group.

This is one of the unique functions of Discord. Imagine creating a sport group on WhatsApp and you don't want your members to talk about every kind of sports in it. Perhaps, you want them to talk about football in a particular group and hockey in another group. You will need more than one group for this!

On Discord, you can create sub groups (channels) in a group (servers).

WhatsApp can only accommodate 257 members in a group. Discord can take a whole lot more.

You should try discord if you haven't used it. Although, it was built for gamers and programmers, Steemit communities now use it to pass information. It's a place for Steemians!
