Amazon Prime will broadcast 20 English league games for free

Amazon continues with its objective of obtaining a good dose of the entertainment ecosystem, and has just confirmed that it has achieved the right to broadcast matches of the English league, the juicy Premier League.

Amazon made public its intentions a few months ago: they wanted to enter the sports segment and, therefore, they took over the rights to broadcast the NFL games. The next goal was football, and the Premier League was the goal.

So far, the rights to the games of the English football league were from Sky or BT, companies that pay about 7,000 million dollars for the more than 120 games they broadcast.

Amazon will start more modestly, with an agreement of 100 million pounds, about 114 million dollars, to transmit a total of 20 Premier League matches. It is a very internal number to the other channels that have been broadcasting the Premier for years, but it is, again, an important step.

The 20 matches of the Premier that Amazon will broadcast will be carefully selected, and although it is the smallest package available in the auction of games, the agreement will last three years and we will have to see if Amazon renews, even with more games.

In addition, as expected, Prime members will be able to watch the Premier League games for free, which makes a service that continues to expand even more juicy, as Amazon Prime Music has recently shown, the service that allows us to enjoy more than 2 million songs at no additional cost.

Now we just need to see if, after the English league, Amazon is interested in other types of competitions, like the other great football league, the Spanish one.
