Drones: Google delivers ice cream and other products to Australia

in #technology5 years ago

At first it might have seemed like a joke , but now Google has actually launched a fast delivery service through drones . This leaves the experimentation phase to move to an operational phase , still small, capable of delivering small-sized goods to users independently.

The first nation that currently has the possibility to try "on the field" this novelty is Australia and more precisely in the city of Canberra. Here the drone of Google have received the approval of the agency entrusted to start trading with ordinary citizens in a realistic scenario.

According to reports, deliveries include goods such as ice cream , bread, chocolate, sports equipment (golf balls). These are therefore small and easily transportable products, also due to some current limitations of the project.

In fact, the drones of Google are thought to be quieter than those that usually are used to hearing. Moreover, for safety reasons, the drone does not land on the ground but remains suspended in the air (7 meters high) and uses a pulley to deliver a small package (and users must stay at a distance of two meters during the operations) .

The drones currently used by Google use twelve small propellers arranged on two parallel structures. Users would seem satisfied with the service as it is faster than road transport (and certainly more scenic).

In the testing phase, around 2000 deliveries were made (between 2017 and 2018) without any incident occurring. To orient oneself, a fixed camera is used on the ground but which, due to the resolution, would not be able to capture clear images of people (for privacy reasons).

The drone of Google have a service schedule that begins at 7:30 am and finished at 16:30 pm. There are three areas of Canberra where delivery is available while two more will be added later.
