LOL: the Facebook app for young people has been canceled

in #technology5 years ago

Facebook continues its strategy to attract younger people to its social network, but not all plans have been successful. One of the latest news concerns the LOL app, which should have been a container for memes and basically work in a similar way to 9gag, but with a close relationship with Facebook.

However, the company decided that LOL will not see the light. The motivation is to be found in the low interest that the testing group has found in using the application. The test was carried out by about 100 teenagers who were able to preview the application to understand if there could be a future market.

The idea was also that of being able to create a subnet with the classmates or the institute in which to remain "connected" even outside the school environment.

The team (created in 2016) that was proceeding with the development of Facebook LOL will be destined to other short-term operations. One of the future news will be Messenger Kids, always aimed at a very young audience, under the age of 13, and therefore formally can not sign up for Facebook.

As a spokesman for the company pointed out, Facebook LOL was not part of the project of the recent scandal involving the company and Apple (and the team itself did not develop that app). Currently, within the company's ecosystem, it seems that only Instagram is still able to attract the youngest.
