Apple releases the ultimate dongle: An external GPU for the MacBook Pro

Hot on the heels of the reveal of Apple’s revamped 2018 MacBook Pro line, the tech giant has revealed a new external GPU created in partnership with Blackmagic. The external GPU is based on the AMD Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB of memory, though it features custom architecture, according to Apple and Blackmagic. The company says that the new external GPU results in 2.8x faster graphics performance with the 15-inch MacBook Pro and 8x with the 13-inch Pro.Read more: https://mobilesyrup.com/2018/07/12/apple-releases-external-gpu-macbook-pro/Further, the Blackmagic eGPU includes two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, four USB 3.0 ports and one HDMI plug. The device is also the first eGPU to support Thunderbolt 3 compatible displays like LG’s 5K monitor.
Ever since Steve Jobs died I've been pretty disappointed with Apple's lack of innovation and seemingly drop in product quality. I stopped buying Apple products after watching so many Macbooks fail at the company I worked for. This new product just seems stupid. It's far too large to be mobile so if you need this thing why not just buy tower? I really can't see this device being needed by many people. It's just another sign to me that Apple has lost it's way.
