Growing Comfortable With Biometric Surveillance

Within the next few years, we can expect to see biometric scanning continue to be further implemented at airports around the country and world. It's been stated that within just a few years, authorities in the U.S. hope to see all outgoing travelers subjected to this level of extra security.

The biometric scanning has already been used at various airports and we've been told that it might help to speed-up boarding times. However, according to a recent report from the DHS, airlines themselves have allegedly been choosing to opt out of using the biometric surveillance if it has meant getting the passengers onto the aircraft any quicker.

These airlines already have to deal with costly delays and the government has seemingly expressed concern over their reluctance to use the biometric surveillance technology more frequently.

At the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport it's reported that travelers now have the opportunity there to choose if they want to go through the biometric scanning so that they can allegedly move through security faster. Any interested travelers can pay roughly $15 for a monthly subscription and that is going to allow them to use different kiosks at the airport that will enable them to scan their eye or finger; travelers still need to go through TSA security like everyone else however and their bags will be checked.

They hope to quickly expand the program to include all of their terminals. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will be just one more airport to join the list of many that are now looking to use biometric surveillance.

Other airports that are using this technology reportedly include the Orlando International Airport, Miami International Airport, JFK International Airport, and others.

When airlines are already dealing with delays regularly that cost them tremendously, it's difficult to see why they would be eager to implement a new level of security that might add to those delays. However, there are various reports that keep insisting that this new level of security is going to make things faster and more efficient.

Welcoming The Change...

Some recent surveys, such as that conducted by SITA in 2017 have discovered that travelers are becoming increasingly comfortable with the idea of scanning their finger or eye to board their flight.

The previous 2017 SITA survey reported a higher level of satisfaction for travelers when they could use biometric self-service technologies during their travel experiences.

A separate survey that was conducted in 2018 by the International Air Transport Association, which gathered responses from over 10k people, revealed that many travelers are open to embracing these new technologies as a part of their travel experience. If you haven't experienced being subjected to biometric surveillance measures yet while traveling, it shouldn't take much longer, as authorities have expressed their desire to have this sort of security system further and more fully implemented within just a few years.

I read this and your other linked. I was super surprised to see how easily everyone wanted to opt into the face scanning. It's amazing how convenience runs our lives, and how we can so easily push our integrity to the wayside without even really looking at the bigger picture.

So glad you are bringing these things to light @doitvoluntarily. Hopefully people will look past the superficial presumed benefits, and see what is really happening at the core. I appreciate you doing your part!!

How many terrorists has the TSA caught? 0.00! Only in America would we keep paying for an absolutely useless entity with not only our taxes, but our time and our freedom as well. Thanks for the article. Hopefully the sheeple of America will stand up soon.

We don't voluntarily fund it. We are robbed by control freaks because they know we don't really want it.

I had to do a facial scan AKA retina scan AKA biulding a database of facial recognition for surveillance last time I traveled to the USA from Canada. No option not to do it...

Time to find ways to travel without permission.

Easier said than done to places thousands of miles away in other countries or across oceans etc..

Security theater and totalitarian control of travel. That is all this is, and all it can ever be.

As soon as it is widely used in any area or places that requires security people will just have no choice but to accept Biometrics @doitvoluntarily

Why should we accept it? There is always choice if we are really free, or desire to be.

Very good article. Thank you for giving very useful information through an amazing article. Good luck always for you @doitvoluntarily.

I upvoted your post.

Keep steeming for a better tomorrow.

@doitvoluntarily the idea originates from the implementation of this system was to speed up waiting times at airports, however apparently this is being a delay, I do not see the sense of wanting to continue implementing this system
I wish you a great day dear friend

The excuse given is never the real reason for any new government program.
