Would You Want A Robot Following You Around Your Home?

A variety of companies today are working toward the goal of trying to eventually get a robot into every single home.

Whether it's a robot vacuum cleaner, a robot air purifier, or a robot assistant like a mobile Echo, it might not take that much longer before many people around the world begin to further embrace bringing robots into their home, as they've already done with a myriad of other technological devices.

Robots are being regarded as the futuristic smart assistant that many expect a great deal of people will eventually come to embrace.

The smart appliances and various devices that people have already started to accept and bring into their homes have helped to pave the way for the transition. Imagine soon being able to have a mobile Amazon Echo follow you around your home? And remind you of what you need to do or bring with you before you leave the house etc.

It's alleged that Amazon is working on such a robot, a mobile assistant, and they've been funneling resources toward that program that they hope will eventually see robots brought to many homes; perhaps as early as next year.

It's alleged that Amazon will first begin testing those robots in the homes of their employees and that could start by the end of this year. As well, it isn't clear what sort of actions the robot will be able to carry-out just yet.

Concerns...

A plethora of concerns have been expressed when it comes to adopting and bringing robots into millions of homes. As with robot vacuums and popular assistant devices, there are privacy concerns that come along with them. The technology isn't immune to being hacked and the data that it collects isn't immune from being used improperly; without your knowledge etc.

A number of online chat bots are already making headlines for their attempts to trick a variety of users on platforms like Tinder.

They've been busy trying to get people to handover sensitive information like their credit card info, or they've tried to manipulate users into activating their webcam etc. And because of that some have suspected that such behavior might spill-over into the physical world eventually, the more that robots are incorporated into our everyday life.

For those who do invite a robot into their home, they'll need to be cautious about what sort of information is going to be collected about them and possibly stored.

They might also want to find out who might potentially have access to that information, or where the information is stored etc.

You might think there are some similarities between these listening devices and the reality which Orwell described in his 1984 novel. But some have pointed out that the listening device described by Orwell was the tool of a dictatorship and the other is quite different because it's an innocent good that you can voluntarily purchase online. However, there is the potential for the state to use these devices to spy on the public.

According to a previously released report from The Intercept, spy agencies have an incredible ability to potentially utilize these technology devices and use them to conduct widespread surveillance; putting ears in the homes of millions.

The more that robots are incorporated into our daily way of life, it's suggested that this might mean that many people will end-up being overly-exposed because of the sensitive information that the robot might have access to.

Imagine how productive you could be with a robot doing all the menial housebwork and such. Im ready for a self driving car, and a robot to clean my house. More and more the moddke class is having access to luxeries only available tothe rich a short time ago. Amazing time to be alive.

I would never want a robot. Someone bought be an Amazon echo for my birthday and I returned it because I thought it would be creepy. Months later I was right and learned it recorded things people say around the house and collects data. Glad I got it out of my house. I'll never be too lazy that I need a robot.

I'd be paranoid about the info they might collect

It would not be bad to have a robot as an assistant at home, wonderful outside, the technology is so advanced that everything is possible, fantastic your friendly publication @doitvoluntarily that you spend a happy night ..

I would definitely NOT like to have a robot following me at home. As a matter of fact, I am not a huge fan of all this technology and especially bringing into my home or being surrounded by it. I don't even like having a phone on me.
I think we are getting so lazy and so instead of getting smarter we are getting dumber since we rely only on technology. We don't even know how to think on our own anymore or try to remember anything since our phones will remind us of everything and get all the information for us, so there is no reason for us to think, just rely on the phone.
Just look it at cars. People forgot to walk. People are in pain because they are not active, they are lazy because the machine will drive them, the machine will wash their dishes, the machine will vacuum their house, the machine will text for us with the right spelling so we don't even have to know how to write, and we don't talk to each other anymore or know how to talk to people or look them in the eye.
Sorry, I went totally off, but that is how I feel about all this robot and technology and I know most people will disagree, but that is just how I feel.

There is always a potential that whatever technology we humans develop, it will be used against us.

Kitchen knife can either be used as a tool for making food to sustain life or can be used as a tool in a murder conspiracy.

The purpose of robots are to make sure they work as assistants around the house to help us or conspire with hackers to destroy us.

Another thing is that if robots are used as maids then it will destroy the maid industry of actual human beings working as maid to earn livelihood, if this is made cheap many people may lose their jobs.

This is for sure the future its all ready happening ! great post @doitvoluntarily , upped and resteemed !✌👍

Hide that secret for Orwell's sake! no to robots!

If you think I am, I don't want anyone at my robot, in addition to the ineffective harmony sense also as human beings will be reduced, mutual help to each other it is beauty in life. the name of the robot there must be some weaknesses and very vulnerable to the security of the robot itself
