TECHNOLOGY AND ITS TWO FACES

in #technology6 years ago

Technology is part of our lives and in this, there is no doubt. Daily, we use a means of transportation to reach our destination; we use the telephone to make a personal or business call; We send a fax to someone who is in another building, or to another state; we write an "e-mail" to communicate with our co-workers, our friends or our relatives; and thus we can mention a great variety of technologies that coexist with us, sometimes noticing us of their direct influence that exert on our "being", although most of the time goes unnoticed.

SOURCE

An improved version of a mobile, an operating system or a video game comes out every so often. From the first computers that used electricity, to the creation of the Internet, technology has been progressing faster and faster.
But are we really living better than our grandparents? Obviously they are now experiencing technological advancement. But no more than 50 years ago, when they were young and these devices did not exist, not for a moment thought that this sophisticated and changing technique would get to know. In a few years these generations have experienced this sudden change: from black and white television, and then color, through the landline, to the mobile, and then the boom of fixed and portable computers, opening the door to everything a world of technology. They have gone from a life of hard work in the countryside and strong physical effort, to what is now called the global village. A neighbor of mine says: "Somebody coughs in China and I know the second one".
This change has forced these people to update themselves. With that age, his life would be destined to simply preserve the acquired knowledge, but have passed, if you can say so, to be students to be able to move in this environment that surrounds them. And it is true, because the human being is condemned, in a certain way, to learn throughout life.
What will the future hold for us, nobody knows. Some speculate that the human being will reach total perfection and will be "like gods". Others, on the other hand, say that this will lead to the destruction of the human race; technology will have made life easier, but it will also be easier to even kill our fellow man. But we do not know what will happen, knowing the future is not within our reach (for now). We will have to trust that man, using his freedom responsibly, will direct technology towards the good of humanity.

The other side of the coin

As we all know, technology has made incredible advances in our society, but, like everything else, this coin has two sides. There are many people who are caught by these new technologies, and what begins with a simple game, searches or contacts, ends up enslaving these people, a word that had already disappeared from our dictionary and that is now current. New diseases, such as photosensitive epilepsy, appear with the development of these new systems, which if not controlled by those who use them, can cause irreparable damage.
An example of these cases are the Hikikomori; Japanese people who suffer a tremendous addiction to computers, video games, comics ... They are able to stay for months and even years without leaving home, isolating themselves from society for fear of communication with others. They tend to be teenagers and young people between 20 and 30 who believe they have seen and known everything, and have no reason to leave. This type of agoraphobia is characterized because those who suffer from it find themselves sad, they become insecure and lose their friends; they only maintain contact with the outside world through computers, online videogames, television, ...

The treatment consists of housing them in shared apartments to improve their communication with others and mentalizing us to leave, although various specialists claim that only between 30% and 50% of cases achieve full rehabilitation.
But technology not only negatively affects people in this way, let alone the psychological effects it causes in those children who, without parental control, make use of social networks without really knowing the content that they store and that leads them to see and hear expressions and images for which their minds are not prepared (child pornography).

definitely, new technologies can be very useful as a means of entertainment, learning and communication, but if not used responsibly and without taking much time from day to day, can be dangerous even for the person's own life and society.
