What is the biggest problem with extreme sports cameras? Unbelievable price! We are in the era when Major Market players GoPro and also Xiaomi Yi the camera brand is not ashamed of a sports camera for three, four or even almost five hundred euros. For the price offered, all the modern features - 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, HDR and other items.

China-based Extreme Sports Camera manufacturer, Hawkeye, is little known to us, and it's no wonder that the number of extreme sports camera manufacturers is huge, but the usual GoPro runner-ups are producing not good cameras.

The Hawkeye Firefly 8SE delivers 4K video recording at 30 frames per second, which is at least theoretically equivalent to the newly GoPro HERO7 Silver features. The GoPro HERO7 Silver's price is € 330, but it should be noted that the Hawkeye Firefly 8SE uses the same sensory camera sensor that was in the GoPro HERO4 series.

Appearance:

The Hawkeye Firefly 8SE Extreme Sports Camera is available in black or silver. The camera has the usual shape of a small brick, which only some manufacturers (Sony and Garmin) have failed to use. It's definitely worth noting that GoPro's form of extreme sports cameras is much more popular, so Hawkeye Firefly 8SE can be easily placed in a variety of universal accessories, for example, in the so-called gimbal stabilization system.

The Hawkeye Firefly 8SE is very lightweight - weighs only 80 grams. For everyday use, all accessories used - the base, the waterproof case, etc. The actual GoPro cameras weigh from 94 to 116 grams, but Xiaomi does not indicate the weight of Yi cameras on the homepage (the internet says that the Yi 4K model weighs 95 grams). The essential weight of extreme sports cameras becomes momentarily when you want to strengthen them at the helmet.

Hawkeye Firefly 8SE uses microSD memory cards. It is emphasized that 4K video recording will have to buy a U3-type memory card, The 64GB U3 memory card currently costs € 25, saving around two hours of 30 minutes of video recording at 4K resolution.

The sports camera has a built-in stand screw, which competitors do not always succeed. The Hawkeye Firefly 8SE has a power button, a snap button, and two side buttons on the side to make it easier to jump over the settings with thin gloves in your hands.

Water resistance (up to 20 meters) is achieved with a transparent frame. It is likely that the frame will also be used on a daily basis if the Hawkeye Firefly 8SE is mounted on a bicycle helmet or bicycle frame. The waterproof case, along with more accessories, is included in the Hawkeye Firefly 8SE kit. The latest generation of GoPro HERO Black Series cameras and all HERO7 series cameras provide a certain amount of water resistance without a special frame, without affecting the image and sound quality.

Screen:

The Hawkeye Firefly 8SE uses a two-inch touchscreen with 320 x 240 resolution. The screen is very well visible in bright sunlight, protected by tempered glass. The touch screen is perfectly responsive, but in gloves you can only use the features that are available with the help of physical buttons.

The camera interface is very simple and is divided into two parts. One part is responsible for image quality, while the other one can set up a connection to your smartphone and a few other nuances.

Picture and video:

The Hawkeye Firefly 8SE uses the 12 megapixel Sony Imx117 CMOS Sensor, previously used in the GoPro HERO4 series. The maximum Hawkeye Firefly 8SE video resolution is 4K (3840 x 2160) at 30 frames per second. Additionally, the following resolutions are available: 1080p (120 frames per second or 60 frames per second Super View), 2.5K (60 frames per second), 2.7K (30 frames per second), 720p (240 frames per second). It should be noted that 4K resolution at 60 frames per second is available only for the very expensive GoPro HERO7 Black model.

Although the Hawkeye Firefly 8SE does not use the very latest sensor and image processor, but the result is more than amazing. This is partly provided by the 6-axis image stabilization system (usually sports cameras have 3-axis stabilization).
