Kids Exposed to Dangerous Content, Again

in #technology6 years ago (edited)

This has happened again and again. Potentially thousands of minors exposed to content that may influence their behaviour negatively or scar them mentally. It’s something that has become increasingly difficult to prevent ever since the world wide web was made available to the world.

Just recently, one of the most popular apps called Tik Tok was banned by the Indonesian government. The reason was that it was circulating videos that were a bad influence among its users, mostly teenagers given that the app’s primary users are aged 18 and below.

While most of the videos of “bad influence” consists of music videos with over-sexed dance moves, one of the videos showed a dead body that follows a dancing routine by a teenager according to an article by TechInsider. (https://www.techinasia.com/popular-music-app-tik-tok-banned-indonesia)

So how do we deal with this? On one hand, we should not hinder the progress of technology with too much censorship, but on the other hand slip-ups like these may endanger lives.
